after 2nd oil change....car doesnt run as smoothly as before

when i first got the car, it was near silent.

after i got the first oil change at 1k miles, it remained silent

i got an oil change about 2 weeks ago, at 4.5k miles, and now the car is louder and something sounds like its rattling around in the engine bay.

i just turned over 6k miles, and this sound is really starting to annoy me. its not loud, but whenever i punch it, or im sitting idle, the car is defintily louder than when i first got it.

also, i noticed that on my temp guage, after the oil change, the needle, which used to be at the 2nd bar from last, has now jumped to the 3rd bar.

coudl this be from different oil they might have put in the car? whats going on? im tempted to take it back to the dealer, (also have the HU problem, as well as faint CEL light.) but we all know what the dealer is like....

Thanks for confirming my sanity.

I just changed my oil for the first time at 1300 mi last week and noticed similar results (thought I was going crazy).

The engine doesn't seem to run as smoothly as before. It seems to idle a bit rougher and around 2000 rpm in overdrive the engine seems to vibrate more.

I didn't notice any change in the temp guage or "rattling" in the engine bay.

STOP SCARING ME!!! We had one oil change and the car is still quiet and smooth. The car has only 1800 miles on it and is 4.5 months old. Our next oil change is probably in january and that's when I am going to start using Mobil 1 Synthetic.

i think it's cuz ur using different oil, and ur also STILL breaking ur car in...my car reved up alot faster and was smoother w/ valvoline (high mileage thing for cars w/ 100) 5w-30 i didn't notice until i bought it, the bottle caught my eye b/c it had some free gas tag on it... i put in some cheap valvaline 10w-30... it seems to vibrate a tad more and is slow(er) to rev.... now w/ 8008 mi. and im switching to half synthetic nex. DONT switch to syntec. so fast, wait til ATLEAST 10k, ur car is not completely broken in til 10k...

I dont think its oil. the rattling is probably the timing chain...

I think its getting colder outside, that can make the timing chain louder. Plus its taking longer to warm up.

Also, depending on where you live, gas can be reformulated/oxygenated based on summer/winter. And winter gas sucks

I changed my oil to synthetic at 1300 mi. I didn't think that would be a problem, especially since it's factory fill on some cars.

It's a significant issue with the VQ engines. You should probably go back to a good quality dino oil like Castrol GTX and do 3k interval changes until 10 to 12k and then switch over to synthetic. You are prolonging the break-in period for your car and the more you "drive it like you stole it" the more unnecessary metal wear you will exact in your engine.
