2K2 - Completely Flushed Tranny & used Royal Purple ATF

I took my car to the local shop, to flush the tranny fluid. The mechanic had a really cool device that sucks the fluid out first, while injecting it with a tranny-cleaner, and then it fills the tranny with the ATF of your choice. In my case I used Royal Purple ATF I bought from JEGS.COM

I have 15,000miles on my 2k2 max & I can say that now I notice smoother shifts. Also, the car seems to "deliver power to the wheels" much better than before. In other words, it seems like the fluid is making the torque converter spin with ease. Of course, it's all probably in my head, but my gas milage went from 23-24MPG to 27.6MPG... However, it's probably me "taking it easy" enjoying the nice ride & smooth shifting of my Max.

I am overall very satisfied that I had this done & that I am pleased with how the Royal Purple ATF is performing. I'll keep everyone posted with my experiences. The guy charged me $50 & he used about 14-16qt of Purple (I think 14, cause I still have 4-left, out of my 18qts)

I was thinking of doing the same as well. I have about 17K on my 2k2 and I am in the process of changing it to synthetic tranny fluid instead of regular. I just bought a case of mobil 1 synthetic.

I saw on gearhead TV where they put the royal purple in a camaro SS. They did the motor, tranny, and coolant. They did dynos before and after and saw about 5 HP gain. I thought that was pretty amazing for just Fluid changing.
Keep us posted man.

In keeping in line with the topic: has anyone changed their 1-2 solenoid themselves?

I've had 1-2 slipping when the trans is cold and have about 9k on it. I really try not to beat on it until I know that the trans is warmed up, and I have a feeling if I went to the dealer to get the 2k-2k1 solenoid TSB done, they'd give me the ol' UNABLE TO DUPLICATE, especially because you need to be past 1/3 throttle to get it to slip. So I thought maybe I could get this done myself.

I'm pretty inclined when it comes to mechanics, but I'm probably getting in over my head. But it'd be nice to swap the solenoid, do the VB mod, add a trans cooler and switch to synthetic ATF.

Yeah, and remember the SS is a 6spd. All auto trannys use the torque converter to "translate" fluid movement into kinetic energy, so a good fluid is even more evident in an auto tranny.

Hehe, I use Royal Purple 5W30 syth motor oil & also love that too.... although it's hard NOT to love your motor oil, no matter what brand it is!... I even used their racing oil for a single oil change before that & kinda liked that even more... but 5HP isn't really much on the buttdyno. And I also added the coolant additive, which is supposed to lower your radiator temp a bit... but I can't really tell a difference.

I'm thinking about having my mechanic flush the Power Steering fluid & throw in Purple's ATF. I need to find out how many qts I need, first. I wonder if the steering motion will feel any "tighter" afterwards... Who knows? In any case, I can't stand the dark tranny fluid in there now. In my book, when a fluid changes its color to something dark & murky, its time to go...

Ask Kenshiro about royal purple. That stuff is like Kool-Aid. Purple water, that's where the power comes from. As for protection, it sounds fishy.
