HELP! Can't get over 2500 rpms in any gear

Need Help!!!
Ok. Here's the problem.

I can't get over 2500 rpms in any gear. If I try, it chugs as if I am constantly hitting the rev limiter.

That was while the car was running. Unfortunately, after I shut it off, it will start then immediately die.

It acted funny this am - almost a little of the chugging, I thought it was strange and then it stopped. It actually seemed like maybe the clutch was slipping.

On my way home tonight, I took off in second and shifter to third at around 6000 and it just wouldn't go until I got under 2500.

Any suggestions? I'm going to check the plugs and take a look at the oil/coolant to see if I blew a cylinder.

Any suggestions?

I've had the SES for quite some time now - but it has given me the 420 code so I figured it had to do with the ECM.

Another bad MAF!

I am assuming the problem is with you 2000 Max with the intake. Correct? How many miles do you have on it?

John, definitely sounds like the MAF. How long has it been since you've put on the PRCAI? Check the MAF connection, it could be loose, otherwise you could be looking at a new MAF.

anyone know how long the warranty is on the MAF? I know there is a TSB for it but will they fix it outside the warranty period?

I've got 45k so the regular warranty is gone but what would it be covered under another aspect of that warranty?

Thanks Jerome!!

Thanks to you to Sprint!!

I really should have been able to figure that out myself. It was just the way that it happened that confused me. The non-starting problem is exactly the same as when my intake kept coming apart and air would come in from other places.

Guess I might just try Dave since I can't start the damn thing.

Man, I think they're going to give you the run around. Your only saving grace is if there is a TSB on your model year's MAF and you take it in with the stock intake on. Oh boy, here we go again huh? Dealing with Courtesy after your VIAS debacle.

Hey, I like the new wheels!! Sharp!

Well, it's not JUST the intake that'll cause me a problem. If they look under the car or at the udp, they'll prolly throw me out!

The question is whether it is worth it for me to reinstall all that crap that makes up the stock intake.

I think I'll search to find out how much Dave B sells those MAFs for. Even if I buy it and that's not the problem, I know I'll be able to resell it on this forum!!!!!

Thanks dude. To be honest, unless you have the blue udp those service boys won't notice a thing (they can't even spell udp much less know what it looks like ). You can also try a salvage yard to get one cheap.

Same here, I have cattman Y and RT Cat before. And It had the same damn code and my car is Fed spec (which has o2 sensor after the Cat).

Do you know anyone with Fed spec max that has Ypipe and aftermarket Cat (RT Cat, Caround) who has no problem with this error code?

Thanks

Don't think I want one from the junkyard - life expectancy of ?????

Anyway, Dave Burnett really helped me out. There is a site called Motorplace.com. If you have a part number for any part for any car, you can search to find out who has it in stock.

I found an atlanta shop that had 3 sensors. Around $100 each. This is not for the entire MAF assembly.

Otherwise, the part is on backorder and even though Dave was jumping through all of the hoops beyond just an initial order - there was no telling how long it was going to take to get the part. Most of the dealers I talked to in town said "you can only get the entire assembly." Just give them the part number and then they'll go "oh."

The new part number for just the sensor is 22680-2y001.

Dave Burnett's number is 800-251-7278.

The site is www.motorplace.com

It was the Maf. Took me 10 mins to replace it and everything is fine.

Although the tsb says that the ecu needs to be reprogrammed, Dave B said others have swapped mafs without doing it and had no problems. I did not get it reprogrammed and everything is fine so far.

A big thanks to Dave B for his help.

I don't know if there is a tsb. All I know is that I used motorplace to get a MAF shipped to me. Make sure you pay the service ticket part price of ~100-120 not the maf price of ~500.

500 is for the entire MAF tube and sensor (imagine that plastic thingy costs 500) Most dealers just give u a new MAF tube and tell u that it comes in once unit...so dont be fooled..always contact dave B for better price and correct parts.

if just the sensor, it cost somewhere near 100 shipped.

Wrong.

That's what I thought too. However, I got the entire MAF assembly (tube, sensor, screen, o-ring) for a little more than 100.

It was on backorder last week. If they tell you they can't get you one, have them go to motorplace and put the part number in. Make sure they/you use the service ticket part number not the stock maf number.

here's a little update. i currently have 41122 miles on my 2k1, and i'm so damn glad i got the platinum (extended) warranty, cause they said they are going to cover the MAF blowing. they put the part on order and the car should be done by monday or tuesday. i was expecting to drop the 100+ bones on a new MAF. thanks all.

So what's the part number for the entire assembly? Same part number you listed for just the sensor?
