grinding at start-up

Okay, for all you techies and guys who know wierd stuff that the rest of us for some reason dont, can you solve this for me?
Every time I start my car (02 6spd), and especially after its been sitting over night, It starts up fine and then as the revs "lower?" thers this loud grinding noise coming from the engine bay. it only lasts for like a second, kind of like if you sat a piece of metal on a gringin wheel and took it right back off, or threw a screw into a metal fan. What the hell is it? is anyone else having this problem? should i take it in for service? Its only been getting worse too, and its been going on for like 2 months now. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanx

i dont think its normal though. never heard a car do it and it sounds like metal grinding, how can that be normal?

There is a thread on this. At least 6 months ago. The noise is coming from the timing chain tensioner. The tensioner is hydraulic and takes a second to pump up with oil. The noise you hear during that first second is the timing chain rattling against the tensioner. The service manual says it is normal. My car does not do it all the time. I mostly get a little rattle once in a while. But once it sounded really bad. Like a grinding.
