100% sure it was a cop? Maybe could've been emergency volunteer workers?

that would be weird if it was a cop, because i dont think the government would let the police buy imports, if you havent noticed yet, all cop cars are domestic...correct me if im wrong

The Auburn Police Department in Auburn, AL has six 2001 Maxima GXEs that the detectives drive. They are outfitted with radios and hidden strobes.

I really don't think it is a matter of the government not 'letting' forces have imports. It is more a matter of the 'big 3' giving fleet breaks/incentives, offering heavy duty 'police' packages for durability, and the fact that domestic cars are way cheaper to repair (even if this is done so more often that an import).

If you also look, until recently almost all forces opted for the rear wheel drive cars due to serviceability as well as handling characteristics in pursuit and capture driving.

I'm a firefighter, and my car looks like a detective's car. Out on Long Island the gang & drug enforcement police squads use 5th generation Maximas that are semi-hooked-up. One i've seen is lowered with rims, clear side markers and limo tints -> completely unmarked. You sure it wasn't me you saw driving around?

the police use alot of other imports for different operations.. some times they use fixed up integras or civics to moderate illegal trades at races and also help moderate races.

Law enforcement makes use of all sorts of vehicles. Many of these cars like the max are used for plain clothes or undercover work. Also many times these are seized vehicles. For example if the DEA makes a case against a group and their cars were bought with drug proceeds, they can be seized. The DEA and other agencies then turn around and use these vehicles as police vehicles.

Never seen one personally... Hmmm, I wonder if thieves (esp. in NY and NJ) would dare steal HIDs off 2K2 and 2K3 Maxima cop cars.

Police Depats use all kinds of vehicles. Most stick with the good ole crown vic and impalas, but I have seen departments like Addison, TX which is around Dallas that shell out cash for Volvo 870s. I've seen 3 series Beemers in Dallas area as well.

The Honolulu Police Department allow their officers to drive imports. I believe it is called the "mobile division". They have Toyota 4 Runners, Avalons, and Camrys. I heard the Nissan Altima and Maxima is approved by HPD, but I haven't seen any personally being used.
