Nav system,
factory is not really an option. it's far too cost probitive and requires ALOT more than just another head unit.
You'd be better served with a Kenwood or Pioneer DVD based Nav.. in many ways, except the theft aspect.

I have the factory NAVI in my car. I would not suggest purchasing the factory system. My car was a leftover, and I essentially got the NAVI for free. After using it for a few months, I can definitely say that you'd be better off with an aftermarket unit.

Nissan Navi is very good
I also like the Navi with the Nissan. I wish it was DVD based but the birdseye view is unique and better than the 2D look. Very Accurate!
thumbs up for the Nissan Navi here.

Alright, I guess I better clarify my remarks! I think the system is good. In fact, I think it's much better than the system used by Mercedes. However, due to the simple fact that the system runs on CD, rather than DVD, I give it a big thumbs down. I agree that the Birdseye view is unique, but it wouldn't make me choose one system over another. Furthermore, it's quite frustrating that most of the options are disabled while the car is in motion. I understand this is done for safety reasons, but there should be an override so that a passenger could operate the system. Overall, I think it would be wiser to spend less $$ on a an aftermarket system that would also allow for things like DVD/VHS movies. Just my $.02 - take it or leave it!!

You're totally correct about the DVD advantage. I have MCA 7 which becomes useless when you cross from NJ to PA. All in all, it's still better than Mercedes - my dad has the Mercedes system which decided to split the state of NJ right down the middle. Very frustrating, not to mention a smaller screen

As far as the multiple disk thing. Yea, I use maybe 3 disks (but very seldom) and that's it for now.
If you can put in a new Stereo / DVD player / Navi system INSTEAD of the Bose / Navi thing (for under $2000) and get the other parts of the package, more power to you.. I don't see that as an available option though.

The Nissan Nav is to aftermarket nav, what the Nissan Bose is to aftermarket stereo. Its good, but not going to rival the features/performance of aftermarket.
If you have the chance to add it at the time of purchase, by all means, its not a bad deal... you got Nav and no worries of theft. Downside is no expansion (yet) and no way to make it to what you want, like searching destinations while moving.
Past that, the Pioneer and Kenwood (and to a lesser degree alpine) are going to blow it away in updated data and POI's. Most have a version of Birds eye now.
You can actually get into the Pioneer Nav with a 6000 series HU for alittle over $2000. Plus you get DVD movies and anything else you can dream of.

I'd been all over it. (I hate Bose)

I see that a lot of you that DON'T have it open your hole to criticize it.... You should really have a first hand experience with it. I will be either adding the DVD option to it, or I will buy a Kenwood flip up screen - DVD player, and tuner... I suggest it is the greatest otpion on my car ! It's not just a map with an arrow... It's on screen climate control, Single touch screen CD player, and has restaurant guides.. and a lot of trip information for you. Helps find ATM's Gas stations, and even a Starbucks if you need it..

Can you PM me with what have you found out about adding jacks (and the decoder, etc.) for external devices. I stopped looking after I got a $1K tag from a shop in NY to do it (and they hadn't tried at that point).
Oh, and I like the new sig.

I've test driven both the infiniti and nissan cars with NAV and done
ALOT of research into purchasing aftermarket nav. I have a pretty good idea of what it's capable of.
As far as the integration, good point. Thats a very attractive feature, but arent you totally chained to that system now? I agree, its looks fantastic in the car, and will look better than most aftermarket systems as far as integration goes.
I guess you missed the part where I said it was a good value and to get it if you could :/
The original direction of the post was NOT do I get it at purchase time, it was do I go thru the hassle and cost of trying to add it after the fact... not such a sweet deal in the scenario..
