That said, I find it odd that someone is trying to make a decision between these cars? It's just a strange comparison. What I mean is, you don't go to a Pizzaria when you're hungry for steak. They both taste good, they're just way different and not comparable.

You had some great points there. Ford and GM aren't going to put V8's on the road with too much power... we already have enough teenagers who can't control them as it is. So yeah, the V8 will have a lot more potential. I think it all comes down to what is more important. The low rumble of a V8 or being able to fit you and your friends/family in the car.
Has anyone mentioned getting a 300zx TT? That is a real sports car, beautiful interior, and of course there is huge potential there with mods. After intake, exhuast, and ECU you are pushing 400 HP

Max2000JP,
Get the Mustang. That friend of mine w/the 2000 V6 5spd Mustang has the "sporty" package and even it has a nice interior. Of course every mustang will feel more plasticy then a Maxima, but it is styled very nice and has some nice touches and comfortable and attractive leather seats. It has a big enough back seat to fit two people. (not necissarily comfortably ) I also love the way the shifters are slanted.
I am on the verge of selling my Maxima for a 94-95 Cobra with the 5.0L V8. The interiors are very sweet, I suggest you take a look at the 94-95 Cobra's. You could find a MINT one w/low miles and still have like $7,500 to spare. The 5.0 engines are tried and true, cheap to fix and work on, and very modable. Very reliable as well.
There is just something about a Cobra that gets people's attention. It's not just another Mustang. The 96-98 4.6L Modular Cobra's aren't as torquey as the 5.0's down low, but have better mid-high end power. The '99 Cobra's as you probubly know where majorly overrated by Ford, but are still awesome and very modable.
I suggest you look into some Cobra's before you buy into a GT. GT's are a dime a dozen, but Cobra's are very rare and are big attention/respect getters. No matter how nice the GT is, it's still just another GT.
Good luck man.

It's all about what You want. If you are really liking the GT and can get it at a great price then go for it and don't look back. Just be sure to start modding that thing so you don't get picked on by any 4 door grocery getters

Looks like he made his mind up even b4 he started the thread. Had we known that we would have been better off looking at other threads. Good luck with the Stanger. Again, as I stated last night, as a prior GT owner, YOU'LL BE SORRY, VERY SORRY. Happy modding, get some seat covers b4 you get that car, the leather will crack soon. Torquey engine, no refinement. Just like everything in life, it's all a matter of tradeoffs. Guess if I was young again, I'd probably be driving one too, no matter what.

I havent made up mind if I want to keep the Maxima or get a new car yet. I would like a 350z, but havent driven one. Next on my list a GT. The reason that the GT is appealing is the price and modabilty. I can get a GT using Ford's X plan AND get the current rebate thats out($1000).

well ... from a dead stop the GT has a MUCH better chance against a 2k2 6spd, from a roll, the GT will lose, and i dont think ANYONE would argue with that, stock vs stock. Trap speeds dont lie. 350Z traps like 102mph, that would beat a stock GT.

races from a roll, trap speed indicates the winner, not torque. GTPs has more than 50ftlbs more than a 5spd pre 2k2 maxima and from a roll the maxima can usually pull away, stock vs stock. S2000 has 150ftlbs less torque than a Mustang GT, but from a roll all my money is on the S2000. Again traps speeds tell what the car is truly capable of.
#57
Like I said before; horsepower wins a race, torque wins the burnout contest.
Looking at the trap speed is the best way to tell how the cars will compare from a roll. The Maxima being front wheel drive makes it difficult to be the best from a dead stop

If you have a family, this car is not for you because there virtually is no back seat! If you want something RWD have you considered the Infiniti G35? It costs less than a Mach 1 but more than a Mustang GT. You also get comfort and reliability with it unlike FORD.
But if you like that muscle car sound/grunt, a mustang gt is for you. You will feel every part of the road though, but you get power..until 30,000 miles when the engine fails

did I say paint chips?

I wasn't saying your max was a lemon. I had a Ford Escort that was though. But my first car was a 1982 F150 and I still see it on the streets running fine even after I sold it. There's no reason to think every single domestic is going to break down after a few years.

A lot of people dont realize that Nissan Quality is below average. If you read the industry reports you will find Nissan at the bottom and Infinti near the top. Many domestic Brands were above Nissan. If I can find the article, I will give you more info.

Over 160,000 miles and the engine is so strong. My uncles old 3rd gen was at 250,000 miles before he sold it. So Nissan does have some quality to their vehicles obviously.

nissan maxima has one of the top reliability ratings out of all mid-size sedans. Ford taurus and impalas? near the bottom but Ford's paint job sure beats nissans. I have paint falling off hood like its melting in small areas and the nissan dealership rapes you where I live. My mom's windstar still has perfect paint and it has 160,000 miles on it and the ford service department is the nicest people ever.

I won't say a thing in regards to the typical Japanese made car VS the typical American made car. Just refer to any Consumer reports for automobile reliablity.

Well I don't know what you are getting at but the consumer reports on most of the big 3 automaker is shamefull. You really think the JD power's survey is any different. For example for the Camaro, what's the difference between abosolutely dismal and slightly less dismal? I really don't think even if JD liked the Camaro(and any other domestic), could even be up to sub ave with the Japanese cars.
