Mp3 or XM with Bose HU?

I've got a 2k2 with the Bose cd changer.. I'm thinking of either getting a creative nomad MP3 player (or something similar) or a Sony XM external receiver so I can listen to mp3/xm in the car as well as in the house. I really don't want to spend the $$/time to replace the HU with another.

So, I guess what I'm asking, are there hookups on the bose/clarion HU for something like this or am I going to have to go with the tape or FM approach?

Thanks,
bobcat

not really an answer

But you might want to post to either the General forum or the Audio forum for this kind of question. If asked to guess, I would have to say that you might have an option if you went for the CD in the trunk (you might be able to go in-line there). Hope this helps.

my next project is hacking into the cable for the trunk mounted changer and running my XM into Bose at line level. I actually got a nice source switcher for many sources in.. I didnt mind FM modulation for a few weeks, just because I love XM so much.. but after awhile I decided I'd rather shoot for the cleanest signal, even if it takes some slicing.

I'll take good pics and whatnot for everyone.

maybe a $200 Sony MP3 FM CD changer will help you out.

maybe I should have said this in the original post. I've got the in-dash cd changer. Does what you're doing Tim still apply? I wonder if the cable/hookup is still there ?

If so.. if you get it working I'd love to see some pics n stuff on how you did it!

amount of effort you are going to spend wiring the unit you could have installed an mp3 headunit with better sq then the factory. and the answer is, NO, there are no inputs on the factory head unit. There are also no outputs either.

there must be some kind of input if you are to hook up a cd changer to the head unit... or does the changer send digital info to be decoded in the head?
