Yes that is a big side effect of an INTAKE~

low mpg

I've got 02SE Auto. I use only premium gas. My mileadge is among the worst. Usually, I get 15-16mpg. However, I drive in DC metro area, in traffic, mostly with average distance less than 10 miles. Actually, my secondary route to work passes by 2 recent sniper shooting places in Montgomery County.

I thought that it could be something wrong with my Max, until I took a trip to NC. I drove on cruise set for +8+9mph. From that trip I've got 27-28mpg. So, I guess it is not the car, but the traffic plus my Max made me too aggresive driver.

well to improve your gas mileage...
just get a new aftermarket air filter... leave everything in place and just replace the filter... i did that and i improved +3 mpg. well cuz i used it on the highway lol... cuz the stock air filter is not taking enough air. and it sux. so just get one and will help using any aftermarket air filter...

So If I was to compare Injen intake w/ a stock 350Z intake which one would be more high Flow?

nismotech, with the injen cold air intake will improve mileage SLIGHTLY. i mean it will barely show higher gas mileage. im not sure with the 350z. im assuming all stock filters are not as good as the aftermarket filters. but with the injen CAI, your basically gonna get hp instead of mileage, because the piping is different.

slickrick, yes just by having a k&n drop filter will improve gas mileage, because more air will be drawn into the engine. yes there will be hp increase, but not much. you will not feel the difference. but i dunno if i should even believe the cover of the box... it says increases hp and mileage. i know it improves mileage, but VERY LITTLE gains for hp, so i consider it as no hp gain.

Thanks for the response. Also I agree with you on the K&N, even though its a better filter but have you seen the design of the path on the stock instake system? I mean it is narrow and tight.

MPG

I don't see how you get 30mpg in an auto@70mph.
Is that what your computer says? Its off by 4-5 mpg.
I have a 02 GLE and I get 23-24 highway(trip says 27-28)

My mile computer says I get 13.7 mpg. I live in NYC but come on. When I first got my car in Dec. I was getting 28 mpg. So the computer is just a pos? I hope so. On a full tank I can go 200 miles. but I drove 230 miles to school and it said I have 150 miles left for the last 100 miles. go figure.

I live here in D.C and when I first had my car I could get about 300 miles out of my tank in the city but now after 12,000 miles I'm getting closer to 220 miles per tank.

If the trip computer is SO INACCURATE why don't we just stop using it and calculate the correct way? w/ a Calculator.

That’s not the point most of us already do that. The POINT is why put something in the car that is so inaccurate as to be exactly the same for most people +4mi. It doesn't seem very hard for other car manufactures to do this function much more accurately in their computers.
So given the fact that it is off by 4 miles 95% of the time this brings us to 2 conclusions. Either they are trying to hide something or there is an error in the program. If it's any error it should be able to be fixed with and update to the ECU.

I know this thread is three days old (a year in .org time) but I was lazy and just got around to pulling out the calculator. My worst mpg in 7300 miles is 14.8, best is 26.9. Average is 23.6. Around town looks like 21-22.

today i reset the MPG and i got 9 then a minute later i resetted again and this time i was cruising about 40 mph and i got 45 MPG... but when i get those low MPG it starts out low and gradually rises around 22-23 MPG. but when i reset it again it drops down to about 17 and rises again. i drove almost full throttle throughout a whole gas tank, and got 210 miles, and the MPG kept rising. hahaha... getting real bad mileage. but i keep thinking im really going 22-23 MPG, on the MPG computer reading.
