Re: hit and run

the way I read this, it happened at work.

check with security and see if they have cameras that point toward the parking lot. If they do, ask to see the tape for that time period, get the license plate, look the offender up on the internet ($10 to run a license plate) go to his house and break his thumbs!

and if I was you, as much as you'd probably like to hurt the person, I'd do everything up to and including "get the license plate" then call the cops.

The first thing to do is file a police report and report it to your insurance company. It happened to me a couple of years back, the police never found the guy and I was out my deductible.

this is for texas, there are others for each state. If you have a particular state you're interested in, let me know and I'll find it.

i dont know how it is in other states but in NJ you have to be able to prove it was the person driving the car. hench why we dont have the traffic light cams. but if they do have a security cam then you could find out where the guys lives and confront him about it, i wouldnt do anything illegal cause then he could catch you and then your SOL even more. personally i would call the insurance comapny up and file out the **** and just let it be.

In TX, it is "assumed" according to state law that the owner of the vehicle was operating the vehicle at the time of the accident. Sucks if you loan out your car, but its intended to keep car owners more cautious about whom they do loan it out to.

Bring him to Wapner... THE PEOPLE'S COURT! Small claims has a much lower burden of proof. A video of the car should be enough to get a small claims judge find for you.

Assuming there is a video, mention this to your insurance company, as they will file and research it for you.

If you get plates (video or otherwise), report this to the Police. It is a serious crime to cause property damage from an auto accident and leave the scene.
