2004 Max HP

I did hear from the owner of the Nissan place here that the 2004 Max will have the same HP as the 350Z or similiar. It's supposed to have 287HP and be definately redesigned and looks great. Not sure anyone has seen pics yet, but they are learning some of the figures such as HP, etc.

My biggest fear is that they will make it too big and it will remind people of an Avalon. Don't want a big ole boat as a car. If they make it 287hp and make it heavier, it won't be any better than a 2003 unless they increase the low torque capability.

Unfortunately that may be the case given the 2k4 is supposed to compete directly with the Avalon this time around.

Surprisingly, the 5th gen Max and the 2k2 Avalon isn't that far off as far as size goes. (esp in the front)

Maxima:
Wheelbase - 108.3"
Overall Length - 191.5"
Overall Width - 70.3"
Overall Height - 57.1"
Luggage capacity - 15 cu.ft.
Headroom Front/Rear - 40.4/37.2"
Legroom Front/Rear - 44.8/35.4"

Avalon:
Wheelbase - 107.1"
Overall Length - 191.9"
Overall Width - 71.7"
Overall Height - 57.7"
Luggage capacity - 15 cu.ft.
Headroom Front/Rear - 38.7/37.9"
Legroom Front/Rear - 41.7/40.1"

The roofline on the Avalon makes it look like a hearse.

Agree, that is what I don't want Nissan to do. It can be bigger, but don't make it look like something a 60 year old or someone with 5 kids would drive. Most people I know who have a Max are either single or married with no kids. I'm single, but even if I was married with kids, the kids would NOT be allowed in the Max.

Well, aren't Maximas and I30s normally compared together as one in the same from different companies? Infiniti already has the M45 and Q45 as huge boats to compare the avalon to.

I know that you heard this, but don't believe these people. Around here the Nissan reps do not know as much as us Max enthausist about the cars they sell. This is purely speculation. Nissan has not released any news about the 2004, so I doubt that a sales rep would know anything even if they work at a Nissan dealership.

Hey Maximaman69 I’m 60 and have 5 kids (all grown), and take exception to the fact that you think we as a group (the older generation) have lousy taste. I’m a Max driver and love it and so do my kids as they ride in from time to time.

Then what the hell are doing in a Max?

Seriously, there are exceptions to every rule, but face it, generalizations are generalizations for the very fact that they are frequently true and based upon numerous observations.

By and large, the 50+ set DOES drive more bland, overly chromed, underpowered land yachts than not. In some instances, yes maybe decent powered Lexus, MB, or BMW models.

Yeah a good portion of maxima owners in NY are middle aged and up. Either that or young asians all with black maximas. Guess which one I am.

Why wouldn't kids be allowed in the Max? It's a family car isn't? It's not like a Ferrari or anything.

Why wouldn't kids be in a Max? My three-year-old daughter rides in both our '03 and our '95 Max's. Usually we start off and she says "go fast Daddy!" (admittedly I'm not sure that's a good thing...)

Gotta agree on the kids thing! They would be in the bed of the pickup, while the dogs ride inside with me!

From what I've seen in NY a large number of people driving the Max are middle aged. As for me, when my lease is up on my Galant, my Max will have 2 baby seats in it. Man that's going to suck. Oh well

260 HP tops got to keep price and gas mileage competitve with the class they are in

Which means they can go higher. Take note that starting from the 6th gen onwards the Maxima will no longer be in the same class as it is now - that's the Altima's job.

I think the bigger question is How much is it going to cost???

A fully loaded Altima is over 30K Sticker....So where is that going to put the Flagship!!!!!! Outer space would be my guess

I just can't see Nissan putting the same engine in from their sports car into a 4 door sedan. I just can't. A better fit may be a small V8 if the car is going to spread its wings and grow. The maxima is more of a luxury car than a sports car except for the SE

Think of it this way instead: Nissan took the engine from thier 4-door sedan and put it in their sports car
Seriously, there isn't really another engine that could go in the next Max. There isn't a "small" V8. There's only the 4.5L VK from the Q45 and M45. Sure, maybe it could be destroked a little(3.5L like the IRL version), but that would make it too rev happy for a family/sport/luxury car.

The Maxima and the new Altima are good family cars. I'm 37, married with 3 kids, and we all love riding in the Max. I previously owned a Mustang GT but I needed a larger, but still sporty car, to fit my growing family. I may trade for a G35 if the next Max looks like the Avalon. Not all family men want to drive boring cars and Nissan/Infinti is filling the need.

over 30K!!

Dealer's around my area with a fully loaded Altima is 28K, which is about the price of the current Max fully loaded.

If it is 28 K on the sticker there are some things missing...! I bought my Altima in Oct of 2001 and the sticker was 29,088.oo

I did not have the cold weather package or the side sills.

I could have had a Max cheaper with better finance rates , but I loved the looks of the Altima and the back seat was bigger.

The Altima is a very nice car, but it is 5-6K overpriced

Well, the Alt just came out back then so chances are the dealership went at MSRP or even higher. These days you'll easily find a fully loaded Altima for the same price as a Max GLE.

Btw, i had the chance to get a base Alt SE back in August of 01 for $24k. I skipped that and went for a base Max SE instead.

I was thinking about getting the 02 Altima earlier this year but you had to buy at MSRP, which doesn't bode well for my pocket book. I'm glad I got the MAX!

Actually I did not pay sticker...I paid 26 and some change, the sticker was 29088.

I live in PA, I bought it in VA when I was visiting my sister for the weekend.

I called my dealer at home (where my family has bought 9 cars in the last 12 years) They told me to buy it...they could not come close..

So I did! I kick myself in the *** for not knowing about the G35 back in Oct. of 01

Just stopped at local Nissan dealer to look at the Z they had out front. Saleman said same thing as you, the Max will have the 287 HP motor in 2004. Take it for what its worth

I wonder what the Z will have? Twin Turbos? I can't imagine that they would have the same horsepower on both.

It's been rumored. I don't see what's wrong with having same HP's on both cars though. It's not like they're in the same class, weight or price range.

I agree. Completely different buyers. And chances are the Max will be bigger and heavier than it is now and and subsequently slower than the 350z even with the same horsepower.

Hey now Im 22 and love my 2k2 max. I guess it all depends on people's tastes. I used to have a Trans Am and an eclipse, but the max beats both of the cars. BTW my girlfriend loves it, she drives that thing whenever she gets a chance kinda like she rides me

2004 maxima HP all depends on what nissan desides to do with the intaker manifold.. What ever the "real" hP is I doubt the rated # will be correct. I personaly bet the new max will be rated at "260" HP. But like t3he G35 it will truey have a bit more. I also guess teh new max in FWD form will put down 225 WHP.. Well see

BTW I have plans to put the new maxima intake manifold on my car.. It will fit too and quite possibly bring me up to 250 WHP
