Pulling Codes?

Hey all I am new to the board. I searched the archive but didn't see any info.

My fiancee's 2K Maxima V6 has the check engine light on. I was wondering how you pull the codes for this car?

Nice site.

Thanks in advance.

If have an Autozone close by go there. They can pull the codes for you and let you know what is causing the CEL.

I had the same problem a couple weeks ago and the dealer fixed it - no charge - even through 3yr 36K just expired. He called it a goodwill fix. Problem was a bad O2 sensor.

I had an SES, and Autozone coule not read the code. When I went to the dealer, it was an O2 sensor. Really sucked, cause I tooke off my CAI for good measure not to arouse suspicion of a bunch of mods that I have. No prob though, they changed it out and didn't say anything about my Ypipe or UDP. Funny though, every time I take it for warranty service, they write on their set up sheet that I'm "missiing" the front grille. (It's a street scene) lol

Can we pull our own codes?

In the hayes manual it says you can turn a screw and the SES light will blink with the code?

that's for 4th gen ECUs only

We can pull our own codes by buying some OBD II scanner or something of that sort... not sure if it costs a lot though

Yup for 5th gens, your most cost effective solution lies below, until I can make my ooglie cable work

You will need one that supports ISO-9141-2

Try an AutoZone first, if you can get the code, I'll post for you the troubleshooting procedure from the ESM.

If you're under warranty still, then no ?, go to the dealer.
