Looking to get a remote starter questions regarding factory alarm....

If I were to purchase a car starter that had an alarm would that over write the alarm on my maxima that is on it from the factory?

What do you all think? Get an aftermarket starter/remote starter or just get the remote starter?

TY!!

Just get the remote starter. I install starters for a living here in northern Alberta. If you get keyless entry added to you remote starter
it will arm and disarm your factory alarm. Be very aware of what starter you purchase and shop you have install it. They need to run wires into your drivers door to connect the keyless entry. Also you need a starter that is capable of 125 millisecond - 250 millisecond lock and unlock pulses, because when you push unlock on your remote starter if the unlock pulse is to long it WILL roll down your windows.
I recommend Ultrastart brand remote starters. Model U1600 will have these shorter lock pulses that our beloved Maxima's need. If you want
to make it easier for yourself and the installer, don't connect the
keyless entry and just use the factory key fob for the locks and the remote starter only for starting.
sorry for the long post.

I have the Vallet Remote Starter. Works perfectly with my factory alarm. Two lock impulses on my OEM remote and my car starts up!

i was told that if i wanted a remote start i would have to have a spare key hidden somewhere under the dash because the chip in the key has to be in the vacinity of the car or it would not start. Is this true? Also, which alarm would work in unisen with the factory alarm the best and how much do they cost about? I want to be able to keep the same key fob and just add remote start to it. Thanks.

It looks to me that you're in the same position I'm in with my 2000 Se. I too was told that the key had to be buried. I'd like to have an answer on "if the key chip is in the car wouldn't the car then be able to be started with any key, screwdriver or whatever crooks use to start cars?" In other words what's the sense of lossing the factory protection!

DEI Part No. 555U is a box where the key would be placed. you wire this inline with your Remote start wires...a wire leaves the box and is wrapped around the key cyliner. when RS is activated, the box turns on, sending the chips signal to the cylinder. this allows the car to turn on. after the car turns on, the RS turns off (alarm and car takes over) and the 555u deactivates (chip is only needed to turn on, not to keep running) you put your key in and you go on your merry way.

i would certainly hope so. me and spudman were the first to do RS (we're still undecided who actually finished first) and DEI hadn't released the wire colors until just recently so i was under my dash for a long time before i figured out what wire represented what. had to do the RS and the window modules (for 1-touch and all-roll-up when car armed) and that was the biggest pain.
but it's done and it works and i'm happy.

Is ur max auto or stick. I know some people are working on getting the stick shift to work witht he remote start by tapping into pin 44 off the ECU. If yours is stick is this what you did?

yeah, 6-speed.
the pin44 trick does work. i'm just too lazy to do it. i shoulda done it though, last week i lent my mom the car for the first time and she left it in gear and when i RSed it, it ran into the fence. but whatever, that's another post in itself.
FYI, pin44 is 5 negative volts, so you need 2 relays. 1 switches the 5 negative to 5 positive volts. the second uses a 5 volt relay to control the RS, depending if it's in gear or not.

again, i'm just too lazy to do it.

so then what you are saying is that by this set-up you wouldnt be able to just start the car with a regular key? My main concern with a remote start is that the key would be placed somewhere in the car hence that portion of the security of the car would be lost. Please clarify because i'm still alittle confused. Also, i would be able to get all windows to roll up when i set the factory alarm or is that only a DEI option. And if it is a DEI option only, can it be done with a remote start that was incorporated in the factory alarm or do you have to get a seperate alarm for that? Thanks.

It sounds as if the 555u will isolate the signal to only be used to start the car and provide the signal only when you use the Remote Start. Is that correct? I've called five places that Viper recommends here in the Queens, New York area and they are unwilling to install the remote start on the factory remote, stating that there is a distance issue with the original remote
