2k2 SE - did I get ripped off??
#3
No, I don't think you were ripped off. I just got a 2k maxima, and at all of the dealerships 2k2's were priced at around 31-33k(w/o tax, and all that other crap), no matter how much you haggle, you would not get that car for under $28,000.

Was the $28K for an SE w/no options or just the cheapest ones? If the latter, that should be the GXE since there are almost no options available on that... but alas the GXE is rare.
Perhaps the area you live just has expensive dealers? I picked up my 2K2 GXE at the end of November of 2001 for $23400 w/dest. charge and advertising fee (yes all dealers were charging it here) but before tax and license. With tax (sales tax is 8.5% where I bought from), license and all that, it was $25521.75 out the door.
There were no rebates or good financing back then... <sigh> Of course, Murphy's Law was that 16 days after I bought it, Nissan started doing 0.9% APR financing and/or(?, not sure if you could take both) some rebates.

Re: 2k2 SE - did I get ripped off??
I don't think you got ripped because if that is the best deal you found around town then that was the best you can do. I found my car for 500 dollars cheaper over the internet. I had to take in shipping charges if I bought it over the internet.
The guy that said you got ripped got a sunroof which was probably aftermarket because I don't think you can get the sunroof alone. I think you have to get leather with it or the bose, one of the two. I think you did alright.

I wouldn't say you got ripped off, but you could have done better. I just got my '03 SE with the Titanium package, a sunroof, splash guards, and automatic for 25,700. Some people may think I got ripped off, but I feel I got a good deal on a car that stickered for 28,450. I paid for the car outright, so they didn't make any money on me there. All in all, I am quite satisfied with the car I got for the money.

Check out www.carsdirect.com and look at the price for Maximas in your zip code. This is ALWAYS a good figure to bring to the dealer and work your way down. If not, just buy it from carsdirect. I did.

This is like being the fastest gun in the west. No matter how fast you are, someone is always a little faster. Buying a car depends on several things including availability, demand, area of U.S., how many dealers in area, etc. If you paid less than sticker, you shopped around a little, and you got the car that you really wanted, then enjoy the ride. It really is a great car. Like was said above, what can you do about it now. IMO.

I got mine in jan 02....
se w/ sunroof and custom leather (a lot thicker than factory leather)....
car price came to 25.5k....
28.5 k out the door w/ 3.9% financing for 60 months....
this was from huntington beach nissan in huntington beach california....
had to drive it back 400 plus miles up to sacramento california... what a thrill ride it was.......
all the dealers in sacramento area were asking at least 27k to 29k... that's not including the 2k to 3k markup they were tacking on.... it was ridiculous...
anyway, all you can do now is enjoy what you have....

It doesn't matter what anybody else paid. All that matters is what the invoice price on YOUR car is, and what YOU paid in relation to that. If anybody paid over invoice, unless it was when that model year first came out, then you paid too much.
#22
You overpaid a little
During that time of year there was a $1000 rebate and the dealers were digging into their %3 holdback money. I purchased a 2k2SE with no options other than painted mudguards and that body colored under door panel thing(ground effect looking thing) for $21,999 in Lynnfield Mass. Either way you have a great car should and should learn from the experience on your next purchase. The internet is a great tool to find the best price on a car and if you enter the dealership with that info printed out the dealers will not try to BS you. By the way, someone will always get a better deal than you, its a fact of life...

Purchased mine in Feb. Sticker was 28.5 and I got it for 27k financed after tax-tag-title expenses, etc ( 1000 cash back + 3.9% APR + extended warranty ). SE w/Bose 6-CD and sunroof.
I wanted it, so I did not feel I got too bad of a deal since the 27k financed included everything.

....
my cousin got his 2k2 SE Auto w/Sunroof, Visor, splash guards (he hangs around here sometimes) for $22,999. I was with him when he bought it. I bought mine (2k1 GLE) for the same price and same dealer back in 2001.

No options? You definitely got ripped off.
My 2002 SE with all options except Nav is worth $24,000. I'm selling it for $23,000. You could have bought mine and saved yourself a grand.
Anyhow, you should have looked up the book value for agreeing to buy, because $24,000 for a 2002 SE with no options is highway robbery.

You're right, just chalk it up as a learning experience for the next time you buy a car. The more options you get on a car, the better resale value it will have.

folks are you talking about the sales price, or the "ON THE ROAD" price that includes the full sales price, delivery fee, tags, and taxes?? Taxes alone could be $1500 so whenever making a claim, always indicate what the price includes.
$24.5K for a bare-bone SE is a decent deal: the invoice price is 23.100+destination 540+taxes and tags about $1500= You still, basically, got the car at the invoice price, which is very good. However, with 2k3s rolling out with $1000 rebate or 4.9% financing for 60 mos, you should have bargained at least another 1500 grand off.

Re: 2k2 SE - did I get ripped off??
You didn't get ripped off. I bought mine last November and paid 24,000. The dealership only made about $400 from me. (I did my homework). You probably could have gone lower, payed alittle more, but not a rip off.

$24,500.00 was the price I paid
-BEFORE sales tax (5% Mass)
-AFTER title fee
-AFTER $1000 rebate
-BEFORE insurance
Paid CASH in FULL... since I am a foreign national (Korean) with no social security #..

When I bought my wife's Altima in April our Nissan dealer had an 02 Max SE automatic on the lot for $22k even plus TTT. This price probably included any rebateds at the time, but I thought this was an excellent price for an automatic and no other option SE. Unfortunately it was gold inside and out so my wife wouldn't even test drive it.
