Tires to replace original equipment

hello there max owners -

looking for some recommendations on tires (all-season only) for the maxima. riding potenza 92s (17"). and i dont have too many good things to say about them. i loved my old potenza 950s on my audi and was looking to put them on the maxima, but no look, bridgestone doesn't make them in the size. not interested in goodyear RS-As (too expensive, too sloppy).

thanks a bunch!

regards -
jerome

Please try the SEARCH function as well as the FAQ thread.

Many people will hop right on Michelin Pilot A/S but you already indicated a concern for expense.

If your not looking for the absolute best performance tires. The Cooper Cobra isnt too bad. Im in Michigan and need to have something that will be reasonable driving in the white stuff. They work quite well in the snow and are decent on the dry pavement. They arent too pricey either.

According to Cooper, they don't have a tire to fit the Max w/ 17" tires. There is not a very wide selection for 17" tires on 7" wide rims.

I need new tires for the winter too. Are the Nitto 450s better than the stock Potenzas in the snow? It says they are high performance all season. I'd like to get the Pilots, but I really can't afford to spend nearly $800 on tires.

If you drive in the winter you should get winter tires. Period, end of story.

There is not all season tire that performs halfway decent in real snow.

Save yourself and others the grief. Do it right.

You spent good money on the Max, no do the rest right!

Get steel rims with either 15" (2000, 2001) or 16" (2002) winters.

For summers I love the Pilot Sport A/S but you can get just as enjoyale solutions if you accept a non-statndard size, 235/50/17 (IIRC) seems to be a popular size.

Hate my 92's also. Talked to some people at Tire Rack and they suggested Dunlop 5000 235/45's as a low cost alternative. Still everyone says the Michelin Pilot Spot A/S (same size) is by far the best tire. Whatever your do don't get Pirelli P7000's I had them and they sucked.

Just got my new Nitto 450 225/50/17 installed from discounttiredirect.com for $114 each shipped. Probably u won't find any new tire that size cheaper than this. They have great traction in the rain. A bit loud. Overall - very satisfied.
Good Luck.

Have you considered a slightly different size? 235/50 or maybe some 55 series tires?

I need to put new tires on the 2000 soon as well. Looking at the 215/55/r16 and trying to find a decent tire for a decent price. On my 95 (205/75/r15) max i can get some great BF's for 48 bucks a pop but for my 2000 i cant find anything less than 80 bucks for a 35,000 mile rating!

You have a ton of options in 16" sizes...it is us 17" people who are very limited in choices.

Anyone try the Faulken tires in 225/50/17? I heard that the Nittos aren't that great.
