TInting over tint- opinions

Hey guys I am getting my windows tinted this weekend and I am having a serious problem... I bought my car and it had 50% mirror tint on it already. That is not dark enough for me. SO I have the option to tint over that with 5 or 15% or I can strip them and just do 5%. Have any of you guys tinted over tint...if so how did it turn out? Any peeling issues? Let me know!!!! Thanks!

but cops sure as @sses.. especially chp.. i had to take my tint off and retint =/ and now i want 13percent or 6 percent all around. Wouldnt the visibility looking out of 6 percent be horrible at night?

Virginia has to have the lamest, oldest, crappiest auto laws in the world. First of all, we are one of only two places in the US that can't have a radar detector. Second, 35% on back windows, and 50% on front windows. 50 PERCENT ! ! That's not even worth tinting. Sorry, work is a little slow and I'm frustrated...

what does this have to do with cops? They enforce the laws, you voted (or didn't) for the people who made the laws. Why be a jerk about them doing their job?

I'm just starting to research tint...I'm giving my Max a christmas present!!!

Yeah this truly stinks. Went to LA Tint in Sterling and realized how lame the Virginia laws are. However, the guy was puting 35% on all windows of a Max when I was there. He said the final call is on the consumer.

Because its a stupid law and cops could look the other way like they do SOOO many other times (usually with kickbacks or politics involved). The only reason that the tint is illegal is because the cops get scared when they pull people over and can't see them. Boo hoo.

I understand the police safety issue, it's a dangerous job and I commend them for their efforts *in most cases*. But i'm not asking for 5% limo tint here. Hell, 20% would be perfect. And i know most places will do 35% on the front too. I guess that's what i'll be getting with my christmas bonus

From what I heard, I wouldn't double layer the tint because it could definetly cause problems peeling down the road by just rolling your window up and down. Your best bet is to strip it, and redo it with the 5%.

I used to have 35% all the way around in my Accord and decided to add a lil more. I had them install a 20% tint OVER the 35% in front and a limo (5%) tint over the 35% in the back, all I can say is awesome. There was NO WAY IN HECK you were gonna see my back seats and it was extremely hard to see me through the front ones (at most a silhouette). If I were you I'd go with a limo on top of the 50% all the way around to give it that dark *** look. The 50% won't really do much as far as darkening the limo more...maybe just a little bit but not really. Once you get adjusted to it it can actally get to be easy to see out the windows at night as long as you keep the inside of your car dark.

Don't worry about peeling or anything either, it shouldn't happen as long as it's done right.

I'm mulling over that decision right now. I guess since it's about to get cold i could hold off, but it looks so much better with it.

You definitely need tint int the winter especially if it snows where you live. nothing in this world is brighter that F$%*ING snow glare!!!! You get the snow shining off of newly fallen snow and you're permanently blind.

Just make sure you take it to a shop with a heated garage (not just enclosed) to make sure the film doesn't get cold and 'brittle' as it is being cut and worked.

how much u guys paying for your tint? first time i got ripped i payed like 180, but now i know this guy who works there who he said is willing to do a side job for me. Strip my old high 20percent all around and retint all 5 windows with like 13 percent. All that for 110. Pretty good dont you think? and i also want to tint the windshield something dark because the light comes in the front and makes my front windows lighter than the back. So im guessing if i titnt the front windshield it'll make the four windows look pretty much the same. What do you guys think?

Wouldn't you like to see the gun pointing at you

Try putting yourself in their shoes. If someone was pointing a gun at you wouldn't you like to see it so you could react. It happened last year when a unknown fugitive shot a trooper through his limo tint glass. Just a word of advise. If you have darkly tinted windows roll down the windows when you get pulled over. You might get out of ticket because you are looking out for the cop. When he asks why you rolled down the window tell them that you did it for them. It sometimes works.

That's a good price for tint. I am paying $165 for them to strip all four and retint with 5% and that's a hook up price. Be careful with the windshield tint. I am going to do my windshield with a 70% UV film but it's very risky. My friedn got pulled over for his tinit and the cop made him strip the windshield on the spot. According to the officer windshield tinting has a federal law restricting it. They can impound your car for it. SO just a word to the wise.

I agree with 2k2-Blk-6sp, I too have double layer tint & have had no peeling problems, in fact a friend of mine owns a tint shop & he told me in the 9plus yrs he's had his own shop he's never had any customer come back because they put on two layers of tint. If your town cops are cool I would put it on, however I would not touch the windshield except maybe for a strip.

Hey you're lucky! Here in Illinois, it's illegal to have ANY tint on the front driver or passenger side windows. Driving around, tons of people have their fronts tinted. Most cops are cool about it but some will pull you over because of your tinted front windows--- especially if you happen to be driving a highly-modified Maxima...

I gotta be extra careful and be on the lookout for cops. When I see one, I end up rolling the windows real quick--- which is pretty harsh when it's wintertime in Chicago!
