UPDATED(2): 2000 Engine Coils

The dealer finally replaced all 6 coil packs under warranty. The TSB is definitely 01-059. If you have the same problem and reference this TSB, they should fix the issue, but only if you informed them prior to warranty expiration.

The 2000 Maxima runs like new. Also, its true about the high octance gas. Keep using it. It will save you from trouble like this.

Thanks for all of the feedback. A couple questions I need to answer...

My Maxima SE now has 39000 miles, but the problem started while under warranty. That's the only reason its covered.

I think the TSB is 01-059, but I will double check.

Hope this helps. The problem is intermittent and won't happen all the time, so you have to be flexible about when you can take it to the dealer. My daily schedule is tight, but had to suck it up the day it was bad, and take it in. That's when they found the issue.

Good Luck.

I have read the other messages about coils. I don't have much to add other than the dealer finally found that my coils are bad after 3 trips to correct the problem. I don't have the TSB yet, but will post when I get it.

Funny, how they find what they need to fix when faced with lemon law limits.

Anyway, the symptoms were:
- Loss of power on acceleration (highway or city)
- pinging at city speeds
- slow to downshift
- overcorrecting downshift

Hope this helps someone else.

I have the same problem, But how many miles do you have on your max? are you out of warranty? I brought my 2K GXE to the dealer before it went out of warranty, about 4 K miles ago, and they didn't do anything about my ignition coils. And the problem was just as bad then as it was now.

Please post this TSB when you can. I am very interested in seeing this, and which years it affects.

This is EXACTLY what mine is doing right now. I KNEW it was loosing power even when it didnt ping. She's going in Monday for the new coils...and they gave me a loaner too, which I thought was good...

Titleistprov21...Get a copy of the TSB, or at least the TSB number (easily found with a search on TSB) and bring your GLE BACK to them. Where you have it documented with them that it was in there for that and NOT fixed, they should just order the coils and put them in without any boolchiit.

If they dont...go to a different dealer. I wouldnt give up on this issue...those coils are mucho buckkzzz out of pocket.

I thought it was just me...but this kinda sounds like symptoms of my car too. How can we know for sure? I want to be able to prove it when I bring it to the dealer? ...anyone?

MSD, JACOBS, Accel !?!...

I was thinking about installing one of these systems since our coil system sucks! I had my coils(all 6 supposedly, have yet to confirm) replaced recently, and she's starting miss and detonate again! I feel our spark is neither strong enough nor long enough. So, guys, what do you think? Any downsides to installing one of these systems? I think the improvement would be well worth it. However, I've never had a car that 'required' one before, so I don't know.....

FYI: Pull a couple of your coils. The ECU will register a multiple coil misfire and they will replace them ALL under the TSB.
