Run with a NSX (Not impressed)

Me and my girl were going to the mall. I stopped at a red light and look to the right and I see two guys in their 20's in an Acura NSX (im not sure what year). I figured Im gonna race the guy to see how fast that car really is. I rev my engine (Frankencar ) and he looks my way. The light turns green and I take off and the guy steps on it at first and then just slows down. I was like WTF, so Im driving in fron of him for 30 sec or so and the guy decides to step on it. He flies by me (I was not impressed) so I step on it and we catch another red light. I again take off and he just sits there. So I decide to play around with him. I finally se a 3rd red light coming up, the guy just floors it and goes through the red light. My gir just looks at me and she starts laughing. Im like what a Pu$$y, he did not want to race and he was driving an NSX. I thought that those cars were fast but I guess he was scared or a family sedam

An NSX is much faster than any stock maxima!!!

THey will rip you a new anus..

That other guy must thought of just toying with you and screwing with you, because he didn't really see a point in racing an NSX vs a maxima..

I know this because my friend used to have a modified TT Rx7.. and he would play and toy with just aobut every other car the same way..

I just floor it and say good bye to about 90% of the cars on the road, then i shift gears and wished i never really started the race because all i get back from my 2k2 is GRIND GRIND< CLUNK NOTCH!!

I do not doubt that, I was expecting the guy to beat me. I just wanted to see how fast his car was, but why would he run through a red light, it looked like he was scared of racing.

I'm pretty sure a stock manual 2k2 could hang with the some of the older NSX's. IIRC, the slowest ones ran mid 14's.

Because there is no point to an automatic NSX. They only crappy part aboutthe 5 speed in them is that a clutch runs about 2 g's last time I saw someone having a page talking about a clutch swap in one.

Their fast but the true ability of the car is the cornering. They could be a lot faster for the price though

it may have 250 hp but the car is made out of a lot of aluminum! It's light! That's a great advantage right there.

Look at this way, A guy in a modded accord pulls up next to a Ferrari 360 Modena, the accord revs his engine, I doubt the guy in the Ferrari will take him seriously. I know I wouldn't.

But then again, who does take Hondas seriously?

I have a video on my computer of an NSX vs. a Skyline GTR R34 and the NSX wins. So a 2k2 Maxima can hang with a skyline gtr? (Note: This race was by professionals at a race track in Japan)

type R

In my previous post, I was sort of wrong because It was a NSX Type R vs. the Skyline GTR R34, I still sort of made my point.

i think the maxima can keep up with an older NSX.

Ugh. You should have read more carefully. I said I think a manual 2k2 could hang with the older mid-14's NSX's. Geez. As cars get newer, their specs do change, ya know?

(If a stock 2k2 Max can smoke a stock Civic SI, you don't think the same SI could hang with a 160hp VG 3rd gen Max? okay, I think I just made my point, too...haha)

a '93 NSX does 13.9 stock by motor trend. That's a magazine time so it should be a little faster than that.

I do understand the point you made though, it makes absolute sense.

NSX's go back further than 1993. Also, keep in mind that the 13.9 was from a manual. An auto will be slower. An even older model, say a '91, prob. had even less power.

And if you want to go by magazine times, just look further up the page on the website you linked. '95 auto - 14.3 and 14.4 Thank you very much.

wait now we are comparing maxima 6-speeds to a nsx auto?

forget this arguement, you have better points and I just don't want to make a fool of myself later on.

(P.S. Scroll all the way down until you see a box with quarter mile times in it, look at SPORTS CAR INTERNATIONAL and the date 12/90 and the time they got was 13.47 )

In all my posts, I specifically stated a manual 2k2 max. Did I ever say a manual NSX? No, I didn't. I specifically referred to the slower mid 14 sec NSX's (which happen to be autos).

Seriously, you've gotta read more carefully in the future.

And yes, I do have better points than you. Thank you.

Okay lemme end this discussion with this statement - "Stock manual 2k2 Maximas can hang with certain stock auto NSX's."

the long and short of it is the fact that there ARE EARLY AUTO NSX'S which a max can hang with.

I just thought I'd throw in my two cents here. My brother-in-law has a '92 NSX 5speed that I've driven a few times. In my opinion I do think that a good driver in a 3.5L 6speed Maxima could give it a very good run for its money.

I raced a black '96 NSX 5-speed from a roll. He got a jump on me, but I was able to pass him fairly easily, I wasn't driving the Maxima though. Keep in mind the NSX is not all about straight line speed, regardless, I feel far better choices can be made with that amount of money.

$80,000

It's almost the price of a GTR R34! If I am spending 80K on a car, I would defenitely pay a little more to get the GTR R34.

so if you drive a sports car, you're suppose to race a family sedan on streets?

You do know that the 280 is what's published and advertised, but the actual numbers are really higher, right?

Let's say i had bought my car new at the dealer in 1997 and gotten ripped off so i paid 30K for it (being far-fetched to illustrate point). So Let's just say it's 1997 and i paid $15k for a custom Twin Turbo job and other goodies that brought me close to the peak of the VQ at around 500HP and more torque than Honda will ever see. $45k for a 500HP 4-door with the comfortable seating capacity for 4, and maybe an extra thin person..as well as the 6 10" subwoofers in the trunk. Yeah, that's why i raced a 1997 NSX that was probably bought for a steal at $60k (i'm giving him a break)... smoked him.

Of course then i woke up

From 1991 to abotu 1993(1994?) the NSX used a 3L and NOT the 3.2L, they had about 250-260hp that INCLUDES the 5spd versions. Later in 1993(1994?) they put in the 3.2L for the manual transmission that made 290hp, and left the 250-260hp 3L for the auto transmissions. The 6spd Maxima can give any 3L NSX a run for its money auto or 5spd, but the 3.2L which ONLY comes in 5spd would probably murder a Maxima.

All About Handling. Still Way Too Much!

A co-worker at my old Job bought a '99 Acura NSX 5sp (I think it was). At the time, I had a '01 Camaro SS. I would take him in a straight line no problemo. But I have to say, that car handled unbelievably. I remember him taking us under one of those turn-a-rounds under the highway at break neck speeds. It was like a go-cart. Worth 80K? Hell no. For 80K, I might try and get a slightly used M5. Talk about power, handling, and extra seating. You can put 3-4 babes in the M5. One skinny model in the NSX holding your luggage.
