2002 Problems

Ok I have 31,000 miles on my 2k2, yes that is 31,000 miles.
So let me tell you what to start expecting as you wear your car in.
Paint Chips – I have more chips on my hood a front bumper than Chips A’Hoy has in their cookies.
Interior- Driver’s side door panel and front seat make sounds like expanding metal when it is warm outside and the dash does the same.
Now this is the scary one, was driving along one day and went to stop, no brakes no movement in the pedal at all, and a noise from the front end as I pressed hard on the pedal in a panic.
Car pulls all the time to the left.
Front visor light went out!

I have it at the shop right now I’ll let you know how things turn out. But I am really thinking about selling and buying that Volvo T90.

OMG, another Maxima complaint....... Geez... Please sell it and allow the rest of us to enjoy our rides and continue to mod them.

Its not like ALL maximas are bad just cause your ends up having problems. But I guess if one apple is bad, the whole tree has to be crap right?

No if he hates it that much, we dont need people like that. This is a forum of modding and enjoying, not hatting.

Hey Mr. BIGDONJONX..

Its not that we are hating... I think your hating those that are suffering.... So you got a car that doesnt have any problems.. SOME OF US HERE ARE SUFFERING from some problems that are UNACCEPTABLE...

I think you sir should realize that this board is not just about modding and enjoying, but as TIMW said, to vent and complain..

Got it?

OK OK some more

Hey all, I love my Maxima. When I went to the dealer and paid cash for it I was very happy to be the owner of this car. I was in a toss about buying this or the Volvo, but I like the idea of saving about 10K and the horsepower was about the same, “oh wait” the Maxima is not 255hp? And it does not get the gas mileage it is said to have? Well did someone tell me you get what you pay for, god I paid a nice shinny penny for this thing and I am having all these problems with it? The Visor, no big deal, but I like to have a car the works, as it should. The front seat squeaking, door panel squeaking, and dash squeaking every time I accelerate or brake or even make a slight turn, no big deal turn up the stereo and soon you just drown out everything. “Oh wait” now there is a popping in the speakers because the ignition coil is out!
So yea I wanted to do mods to this vehicle, I put about 20K into a 1990 Jeep Wrangler and now have a RockCrawler, but I never had this many problems with it to start out with. I am afraid to mod my Maxima because it has so many problems now, why put money into it! Would you paint over rust?
Maximas rate really well in consumer reports so I am sure I just got “a bad apple” but if your 2002 Max, starts to offer the same symptoms, “the bad apple does not roll far from the tree”
About the paint chips, yea they suck, I have a 1990 Wrangler which has less chips than this car does, but I have decided to have the front end redone, 2k spent but this time I get a clear bra!
Will I keep the car? Not sure, Anyone looking to buy a 2k2 Maxima? Lets talk!
I enjoy this Forum, it is one of the best out there! But there are a few people out there that can ruin the efforts of us coming together so that in situations like these, maybe there is a Defect with the car and maybe Nissan will but out a TSB on it. But how will we know if people are not complaining?

Mr. BIGDONJONX
I hope that all stays well with your Max, and I hope that I never hear you complaining about something going wrong with it.

Hey MAX0830

Hey MAX0830

Look, I don’t race my car, I know what it has and I know what would beat it! So why “beat” the car. The Maxima is not a racecar, it is a mid size luxury car with a little misrepresented horsepower behind it. I take good care of this car, I park in the back parking lots, and I don’t follow close to anyone on the road. I do however live in Colorado and they do lay some nice sand in the winters, Oh by the way you have owned you car for how long? And How many mile do you have on it? Look I have had mine for some time now (when it was first put on the lot) and I have over 31K miles on it. See if yours is still holding up when you hit 30K.

Um are you attacking an owner who has geniune problems?? i wonder how you would react if you suffered some of the problems that some of the other members are suffering... Lets see how you like to waste 30K US on a car only to realize that the minor irratitional problems are not solved because NISSAN DEALERSHIP SERVICE sucks so bad..

Honest to god, i love what my car offers me.. COMFORT, POWER, CLASS etc.. but when it starts to do things that dont' seem normal, i expect the dealer to fix it.. Do you know how many dealers i have taken it to to get the problem rectified?? 5 dealerships. Do you know how many problems were actually solved?? ZERO..

I tell you, some of you guys are so ignorant. People vent because they are upset that the major purchase they made is expensive and not something you just go and sell.. A maxima has a history of amazing relaibility and quality.. but 2k2 and up seem to be the worst build to date. Sure it has lots of features and a powerful engine, but custeomr satisfication is almost none existant in MOST dealerships ...

Don't freakin hate if you don't understand.. Selling a car a few months after purchasing it is not feasible for most people because you lose like 5-8K right when you roll that car off the lot.. So do me a favour and STFU.. maybe we ain't all rich like you.. If i was so rich that i can eat a loss and sell my max, i would never have bought a max in the first place, i would have bought a BMW M5!!!

Thats enough of my RANT..

PS.. JAKE2k2... Yes i do love my car.. but i just wish somebody will cure the problems i have.. I WILL EVEN PAY FOR IT! I just want my car to drive like it should and not like it shouldnt..

And plus, i have a lot of plans in store for the future!! which will entail RIPPING THE WHOLE CAR APART!!

I dont know how anyone can continue to bother with this? Hey, I have a 2K SE and I love it. In fact, its my 3rd maxima (though prob. my last - time to try a 530 when I save enough) Anyway, my manager is a 2k2 M-class brand spanking new. Yesterday, he showed up on his 3rd loaner. He said he's tired of it and wouldnt sell to anyone he knows (not that he could- its a lease). He's just ready to get rid of it. One more year on the lease. The electrical system went out in his M-class. So, you see <> anything motor/computer/whatever.. will have problems. If there were all perfect the first time around QA/QC guys like me would be unemployed.
Get it! LOVE YOUR MAXIMA .. ITS THE BEST CAR YOU CAN BUY FOR THE MONEY. Your other option is to buy a Camry or Accord and STAY OUT OF THE LEFT LANE. I am sure you love your max, of course.. but felt like venting ...

GOD DAMN IT!!!

I love my max, and i have learned to live with it, but i continue to vent because the money i paid is alot to me.. But my concern is i am not complaining so much of the minor things, but things that affect drivability of the car.. which raises safety issues...

Who cares if the MIL light is on dimly, or if the sunroof visor cracks.. I don't care about those things.. In fact i don't care so much about rattles, wind noise or the clouding of the front headlights.. And i don't care about the fact that Nissan decided to use GLASS foglights as opposed to plastic and that both of my foglights shattered after 3 months of driving..And i don't care about the paint problems..

WHAT I ******* CARE ABOUT are the real problems like bogging engine, warped rotors, vibrations above 50mph, clunking tranny, grinding tranny, jerking and trashing in every gear.. THESE are the things that most concern me..

Since my 3rd and 2nd gear grind so much, i am wondering how long my syncrhos would last.. I even tried AMSOIL Race 2000 Synthetic fluids but it didn't help anything..

So... Yes i do love my max, and the minor annoyances i can live with, but the major ones that affect drivabilty is an issue and aconern, and i constantly look on the ORG to see if there is a real cure..

Peace!

Ed

MiniRX- glad you learn to live with them. Some ppl just cannot. Hey, do you believe someone at my job wrote a full page complaint to our facilities dept complaining the toilet tissue was changed and the new one was too "rough". GOD D*AMN! (we all know he had another problem).

Every single model from every single manufacturer in the history of cars has had some sampling of the vehicles that have had problems. Therefore, you will find people among the various populations of vehicle owners who claim that particular type of car is a P.O.S. The truth is that most of the cars from most of the manufacturers go through their existence without any problems at all. Just 'cause you had a few problems doesn't make it a bad car. They're fixing it all under your warranty aren't they?

Its the absolute truth- I mean he wrote an e-mail and someone there forward it to a friends and the friends forwards to ... the rest is history. Almost the entire office read the e-mail. I have a copy and should post it on a new thread. Then we'll super love the max since it wont make our butt itch!

MiniRx. I really think you need to consult a lawyer.. I have driven quite a few 2K2's of other ORG members and friends, and have never felt any of these in any 6 speeds. My car has it's minor issues, but if your car is as bad as you say.. go the legal way. What does the dealer say when you take it back ??

All the dealers say

NO PROBLEMS FOUND>.

so what i am doing now is just driving safe, slow and trying to ignore these irratations..

I am hoping that my tranny will blow up so they will realize the seriousness about my complaints..

The beauty is that all my problems are logged at several dealerships so if anything goes wrong they will know that I have complained numerous times at early stages of my ownership (first 3000 kms)..

funny.. my *** does itch when driving my maxima... what gives??

Hey enough allready I don't like reading people complaining about there maxima's all the time on here either, but they have a rigth too. Let's try to learn from the problems other people have and not frown apawn the members.

But...

I for one have bigger problems then 99% of you 2002 maxima owners. My transmission is in crumbles, it grinds 3rd gear every single time and 4th gear is begining to go bad too. But you know what? I don't let it get me down and you won't hear me complain about it "more then once". So if you have a problem let it be known but please don't dwell on it day in and day out..
