Pictures of the VIS Carbon Fiber Hood

It will not go on until the turbo project is complete. The hood is not "perfect", but I can live with it.

01-09 are of the hood
10-16 are some flaws on the hood

For the money you spend on one of those, the thing should be perfect. If you arent going to be putting it on for a while anyway, why not send it back and ask for a perfect one?

It really does look nice though...

I finally got my DigiCam the other day. This weekend is gonna be nice. I'll definitely take some pics of my cf hood this weekend since it will be nice out.

Kevin,

I noticed you didn't do the install yet.. get the dremel tool out. Your gonna have to dremel the groove on the plate of the latch and move it up. The hook on the vis is too short. We need to either raise the latch or have a shop put a linger hook... The right side sits fine and flush. But the right side has a gap.

Very nice Kev. Those flaws are very, very minor. You should have seen the FI carbon fiber hood that I had. Even with the flaws, I could live with it. Too bad the fitting was like crap, main reason why I sold it. I say keep the hood as is, with so minor flaws I'm not sure if it's worth sending it back and forth. I do miss the carbon fiber smell on a hot day.

Shipping was a pain... not the normal UPS/FedEx delivery. I had to ask my co-worker to drive it back to my place since it didn't fit in the Sentra. The flaws aren't that visible unless you plant your face 6" from the hood.

Could you please take a picture of your latch, Danny? I remember you posted about this when you first installed the hood. Thanks.

Hood pins... did you get them, Cummy?

How much lighter in weight is the CF hood vs the stock hood?

Don't know the exact weight difference, but is supposedly about 30 lbs. I will weigh them both when the OEM hood is off the car.

Since the CF hood has washer nozzle holes... LED nozzles?

Nah!

Kev, yes I did got hood pins. After hearing about Matthel's problem I got scared. So just in case, I bought some hood pins. I'm not sure if it's really necessary. I really hated that I had to drill into the brand new hood though. I didn't like the looks of the hood pin that much, I rather have nothing on the hood, nice and clean. However, since the hood was so light, I just didn't want to take any chances. It's up to you Kev.

Carbon Fiber Hoods

I just wanted to know if the hoods on the 2000 - 2001 are similar to the 2002's. If it is, The you guys could get the carbon fiber hoods over at Visracing.com. They have the "oem" styled hoods which is a stock carbon fiber hood while they have "vs" meaning Invader 6 style which is the same as oem except it has a vented hole in the middle. Pretty tyte as i would say

I once asked sx7r if he was going to get a cf hood and he told me probably not becausee since our cars are fwd the extra little weight of the hood would make for a little better traction... Yet he has one on his car now

Are you going to paint yours kev? I want a cf hood and I think it would cool on my car because it's so dark and the hood is dark. But I think it would look better painted on lighter color cars.

Just my 2 cents.

Looks real good though.
Good luck with the "T" project.

The turbo and all it's piping up front will make up for the CF hood. Probably not going to paint it, but we'll see.

"T" Project experiencing a slight delay due to upgrade/modification.

Truuuuust me....it looks like ***.

A guy at work who also lives in my apartments has a white/cream colored RSX-S with one and it looks FUGLY.

I'd paint it if it was me, but on yellow, black, red, and darker colors the CF looks sweet.

Ive ben saying this for a long time. Hoon (Irvine78) disagrees. I see his car frequently, so Im sure I will get a chance to see it on person.... I just think it looks Wicked on dark colors.. on light ones ,it looks like you can't afford a paint job !

Just my Opinion !

From a distance it looks like it's primered.

Up close, it looks like a plastic mesh.

Looks real nice Kev. Make sure you let me know the weights as soon as you get a chance

Heres an idea for you people with CF hoods, you may like this idea. I know alot of people don't like the look of CF(like my self) so while it's getting painted why not put on a functional hood scoop? I mean a nice clean scoop that effectively creat's ram air and will significantly drop air temps. I plan to do this.. And come track time I think it will help a bit.

And if you guys have not checked the group deal forum check it out, $389 for carbon fiber hoods!

Check out how Wings West did one of their project cars. The middle section of the hood is still bare CF (possibly clear-coated) and the left and right sides are painted to match the fenders:

Yup, I'll do that.

$389 is a great deal... tack on $100 for shipping and that's $16 less that what I got it for.
