328i vs. 2k2 GLE

I have a stock 2k2 GLE, that runs 14.73 back to back with a best of 14.6, my friend with a 96 bmw 328 AUTOMATIC, with exhaust and chip wants to race me, what do I need to take him out?

outcome: neck and neck...you should be able to walk him...chip dosent really mean anything untill all his mods are done...thats when you get the full affect! manual shift it...his car is a little heavier then yours... i beat a 99 328ci all the time!! i have 18's and a system! plus he has a stick...i will post a video some time since many people dont belive me.. let me know what happens!
later man

that is an awesome quarter mile time, by the way. i really think that you should beat a 328 auto. i ran a 14.827 stock (2k2 gle as well), and i was neck and neck with a 330 auto. you're a better driver than i am, so i figure that should be able to overcome a 328 with slightly less horsepower. good luck!

Plus it's an older model 328i ('96), so I don't think you should have much trouble taking him out.

Look at the engine:

2.8L 6 cylinder
3.5L 6 cylinder

1300cc displacement advantage. Take him out.

Yeah, but the M3 3.3L puts out 333 hp! Now that's German engineering for ya!

A 2k2 automagic will walk a 328i auto. A 328iA was fair game for my old Accord V6. A 2k2 Max will simply destroy a 328 auto.

Yeah...too bad those engines have a relatively high failure rate

Relatively high as compared to what? A standard, every day 2.8L or 3.0L BMW I6? How many High performance engine variants across the world suffer from slightly higher failure rates (over their standard engine models). It's not always so much the engine as the driver in those cases due to the nature of the vehicle they are buying.

I'm with SteVTEC on this.

I wouldn't think a 96 328 AUTO with minor mods would touch a 2k2 Auto Max.

cool, thanks for your replies, we shall race this weekend at the track!

I wouldnt race it on the highway, or any other bmw, those things have great gear ratios up top!

Well, I don't know if you should be hesitant about running on the highway. The Max is a murderer from a roll, or even from 70mph on...

even though i would still place my money on a 2k2 auto max during a highway run, our 2k2 autos are geared pretty poorly...hence, our low trap speeds. no doubt a 6spd max is killer from a roll, but even the 2k1 5spds who have roughly the same quarter mile times as my car, trap 1-2mph faster.....

M3 is a whole new story now. He was just talking about a 328i.

BTW, M3 has 3.2L

Read the post over, I'm comparing the 330 to the 328...that's 225HP-193hp = 32hp.

Well we did an un-offical race today after work:
We met at a light on the way home and lined up. Right when the light turned green, i light footed the throttle to not get wheelspin, he got no spin, right on a roll, I POUNDED the throttle all the way, got small amount of spin, and totally ripped him 1st gear, about 1 car length, got into 2nd, and pulled a bit more now we're about 1.5 cars apart, all the way through 3rd, we shut it down at 80, I got him about 1.5 cars; not that bad of a race actually, his car did 15.3 at the track the last time we went.

that's much closer than i thought it would be. those bimmers are definitely underrated, or they're extremely efficient. not a bad race, nice kill.
