is our car...

suppose to be better at the top end than the low end?
I always having difficulty to launch with my first gear.. I never had that problem with any other stick shift car..
any input? I had my TSB done on the fuel cut back then .. but launching the car still a big issue even after 40k driving on it.

help..

What exactly is the issue? Are you stalling it/choking it? I think the stock Max is better in the low end cause of the high torque, but I know some people here have modded their cars so that their high end is better than their low end now. I think ALL ends are nice on it though

Well, when I first drove it, I killed it a few times trying to get it started in 1st. Now, though, I've felt where the friction point is, so I just bring up the clutch nice and slow until it grabs a little, and then start giving it gas (rev it to approx 1250 rpm) and releasing the clutch slowly all the way. I think you just need to get THE touch for it, and after that, it will become automatic. You said you've driven stick shifts for a while, so perhaps if you're doing the same thing as I am, there's something wrong with the clutch. But, I'd just try all the possible gas/clutch combos until it starts smoothly, and then just keep doing that until it becomes second nature. As you know, all stick cars are different, and you just have to get used to them.

I've never had problems with 2nd gear though, only rough starts (sometimes) into 1st.

I have tried many ways and I did drove a lot of different stick car and of course nissan is not honduh.. but still after 40k of driving it I have not find a way to get a smooth launch.

Have you EVER been able to get a smooth takeoff? Like once or twice? If so, then it IS possible to get it, but I guess you'd have to pin point the exact clutch/gas combo.

If you have NEVER been able to get a smooth launch after 40K miles, then perhaps your clutch is faulty.

I am afraid to answer that question.. when I used to work as a valet driver I did drove on the exact same care and I can launch easily and smoothly. How can that be possible that a clucth be faulty?

Hey exunaja,
I think you just answered your own question! If you were able to get a smooth launch on an identical Maxima, then that means it's something with your car.

The clutch could be at fault in this way. If it slips even though you're letting out the clutch in a textbook manner (i.e. everything is proper), then you will still have a rough start. Apparently, you're doing everything you can from your side of the deal, but the clutch is not holding up its end of the bargain. My suggestion would be to take it to the dealership and have it checked out (are you still under warranty?). Also, I'm betting some guys on here would know even more, and perhaps give you more technical help/advice.

certainly.. now is a matter who is willing to tell me more about this issue.. and I have an extended warranty with the car and transmission should be under original manfacture warranty right?

That's correct. The transmission/clutch falls under powertrain, which is for 5yrs/50,000 miles, whic you qualify for. Usually, the clutch is considered a wear and tear item, and not replaced under warranty. However, you have to tell them that the car has never been able to launch smoothly and that you've driven exact same cars using the same technique and were able to get a smooth start. I just don't know why you waited until 40K miles to do something about this/bring it up. Well, best of luck, and def take it to Nissan to get it checked out.

Good Luck.
