How does the MPG computer get the average MPG ? (more)

Does the MPG computer take the average of the last 100 miles or so? Or, does it take the average of the trip odometer?

I have just installed a UR pulley on my 03 Max.. and.. I drove it pretty hard at first, but .. now im trying to drive it normally and check out the gas mileage..

It has dropped quite a bit, and no matter how I drive it seems hard to improve the gas mileage average. That makes me think that maybe the computer is taking the average of the last 100 miles or so, with all of the flogging I have done on the dyno, and on the streets with my newfound happiness with the pulley.

Anyone have any input ? Please post here! Thanks !

I wanna know the answer also. Mine is always around 16mpg. But I usually get about 200-250 per tank depending if there was any freeway driving.

It updates itself every 30 seconds and averages it since the last time you reset it. If you hold down the mode button on the steering wheel when it is on MPG it will reset itself.(This works for the rest of the options also like driving time) Do this right after you fill it up and do not reset it till you fill up again and then you will know what you are getting for MPG after the mod.

Thanks for the input Kmurphy..

I already knew about the reset feature, and have been doing that with each fillup already.

I just didnt know..how far back the avg mpg went back.. ie.. since last reset, or for last 50 miles, etc.. I knew that the longer it was since the reset, the less it fluctuated, so I knew it was taking an average.. Just didnt know what time frame it was averaging.

The Computer calculated MPG is about 2-3 miles per gallon higher than the actual MPG in my case. I just reset the total mileage after I filled up the gas tank and divide the total miles by the
number of gallons for the next fill up using a hand held calculator
