Opinions Wanted

I have two questions:

1) I believe that Maximas have a very classy look, and I want to keep mine looking that way. When I told a friend I was going to tint the windows VERY dark, he said that it would take away from it's classy looks. What do you think? How dark should I go with tint. By the way, I'm not worried about the legal limit.

2) Anyone here upset that Maxima is getting a new body style and now our 5th gen is already out of date?

1. What color is your Max? On the dark colors (i.e. Black and Gray Lustre), the dark windows improve the look of the car in a big way. I'm putting two pictures for comparison below. Before tint and 35% all around. Overall, I think tint improves the sophistication of most cars.

2. I could give a crap about the new body style.

I think it all depends on the color of your car and the type of tint you use, and your own personnal tastes. I think darker colored cars handle the darker tints better than light colored cars. Lighting plays a big part in this also. I used a 35% copper tint on my car (Mahogony Pearl) and it turned out fantastic. Just dark enough where it doesn't take anything away from the color of the car.

The fifth generation style is unique. It's to bad Nassan didn't capitalize on this and improve an already popular style. I don't place dollar values on my cars and worry about the resale values, as I hang on to them for a couple hundred thousand miles. I know is my mind I have a great looking automobile and will be happy with it for a long time. Much longer than the new owners of the 6th generation cars when they happen to see me or any other 5th generation owner on the road and wonder why their cars are not half as good looking as ours are.

Agree that it's related to body color (and personal choice). On the dark colors tinting looks great; on my Sheer Silver, I had planned to go with tint but didn't because (to me) there was too much of a contrast between the body color and windows.

I too am glad they made the 2004 Maxima look like an Altima; now I won't want one (hey, no offense to the Altima, but if I'd wanted one of those I would have bought one).

Yes the 6th Gen is not very easy on my eyes at all. In one word, it's "BLAH"

1) Here's mine. It's 20% Charcoal. Too light for me (although it looks ok in this pic - it was cloudy out). I think that darker looks better. I'm getting it redone for 5%.

I tend to agree that the lighter colors don't work with the dark tint as well as the dark colors do but to be honest I think that light tint looks like crap. To me it looks like a 1/2 done job. I want it so dark that you can't see inside at all - even in the day. But again, a lot of this is personal opinion. I don't think it's worth spending the money if you just are now a shade darker from the outside

20% Charcoal

(check out my new clears!)

2) Yea, I'm pretty mad that my car will only be new for 4 months

This thread reminds me of similar threads I read back in the 4th gen forum a few years ago.

i got 5% Smoke tint all around (except the windshield )on my pimp mobile (its a white 96 max) it looks good. Its not leagal where i live but i went on and did it anyways. i think 5% would be good.. or 5 % in the back and 20% in the front. but darker is better... or 15% smoke all around .. dont tint anything on the windhshiield though.

I'd have to agree with most. Darker colored car would look better with darker tint. My white max looks real nice with the legal limit. Not too dark and not too light... Just right!Hmm sounds like some three bears kid story.

Oddly enough, i'm with your friend, I think tinted windows (especially very dark tinted windows) detract from a classy look.
The only reasons i can think for tinting windows is if you are embarassed with how your interior looks, or you have some sort of medical condition that doesnt like the sun.

most "classy" cars come with factory tints - 72% i believe? - if you want to assimilate this appearance, use 50% all around

Re: Opinions Wanted

1) I haven't tinted my windows yet, but may someday since it would help a bit in the Las Vegas sun. Anyway, my Maxima is Icelandic Pearl, and I've always thought that a dark tint would contrast too much with the white color of the car. For me, I may eventually go with a quality reflective tint. It might blend in better with the car. Hmmmm...

2) I kind of like the look of the 6th generation Maxima, and I think its look will grow on me as time goes on. It'll probably be a nice big car, hopefully offering good value with good performance as all Maximas have in the past. I'm not upset that the 5th generation body style is on its way out. That's the way of things in car industry. I do think that the 5th gen style is the best looking to date, and that would include the 6th gen. I love my Maxima!

tint wil not take away the classy look, it should make it classier in my opinion. Benz, BMW, etc all come with dark factory tint.

Here a few pics of mine. its 35% charcoal in the fton and 5% charcoal in the rear.

1. You really need to look at the tints in person to see how they change in the light. 35% is just dark enough where you can tell someone is in the car, but you cannot make out details of the figure.

2. No. I like the 4th gens more than the 5ths.

Lol. Plus getting a tint can help you from getting a sunburn. A friend of mine was driving up here this past summer in her Jetta, and got sunburned pretty badly. Just another benefit (or excuse) for getting a tint.
