Need advice

Our 98 trep was nothing but trouble. In 44K miles it had two brake jobs, torque converter change, transmission computer, front axel replaced, intermittant inside lighting problems that the dealer never could find or fix, drivers floor vent doesn't work, heater on car blows cold air when in idle, numerous recalls and service bulletins and now it has a leaking head gasket. We had to get out of this thing.

Wanted something like a Camery, Accord or Maxima for the wife and it had to be under $20k with low miles. We found a used rental 2k2 SE with auto tranny. It had 18K miles on it and other than a scratch on the rear bumper, it looked and drove just like the new SE we test drove so it seems sound. I know rentals could be beat to heck even during break-in but even private owners with teens who can't sometimes wait have the same issue. The car has a rev-limiter right? Plus coming from a big rental place you almost know they were maintained well. They were asking $24500. I think we did ok for getting it out the door for 18,500 including 7.25% tax and fees.

The SE is night and day between our 98 trep. It is a ton of fun to drive, doesn't feel heavy on the windy turns, has much more comfortable seats, and much more visibility especially for the kids. It looks, feels and performs much better in all areas that I can tell.

Anyway, we got $2000 more out of our used trep than I thought it deserved. Since we got more money than expected and they had the SE listed as "No Warranty" we opted for the 6/75 silver extended warranty for $1100.00. The few problematic posts here and our trep burning us bad made us do it.

However, I'm now curious about the 3/36 5/60 factory warranty. Shouldn't this car already have that warranty and we duplicated it with the extended or did the prior rental thing void the factory warranties? I'd love to cancel the protection plan if we duplicated the coverage.

BTW- How is the silver protection plan? Really tough to find info on this except that the dealers are tough to work with at times.

Thanks!

Welcome to the family. I bought a rental SE in august. I walked out the door for 19K, including everything. No problems at all so far, (knock-knock). Sooooo Congratulations ! !

Maybe it's different, but in buying mine i still got what was left of the 3/36 and 5/60 warranty. Maybe mine wasn't a rental, but i was told it was bought at auction, so i'm assuming so. THat could change things, but i doubt it. I didn't buy any other warranty, though.

I got mine at a dealer that got my 2002 at Auction as well. The dealer had paperwork that said it was a Nissan Executive Program car. I don't know if they made that up. But the car was in incredible shape. There is a small ding on the hood, which they have agreed to take care of..
