Brought my car in for service today...

'02 Max with 9900 miles.
Dropped off at Warnock Nissan in Morristown, NJ.

1st problem... clutch
when I'm sitting on a hill in traffic slowly inching my way up, my clutch starts to make some weird noises. It will make the whole car shake before it completely grabs. A friend told me it sounds like the clutch plates are heating up, not a good sign he said. Happen to anyone else?

2nd problem... Creaking noise in cold weather
When the temp is below 40 and I'm driving along and hit subtle bumps (i.e. manhole covers, expansion joints) it sounds like my windshield is not seated correctly. It just make these creaking noises with every bump. Anyone else?

3rd Problem... Sunroof wind deflector - Cracked
On back order for 9 months I was told.

Well I should learn more as the day goes on, I was just wondering if anyone else had encountered these problems.

Thanks!

all three of those are very common and discussed ALOT. Give the search (limit to 5th gen) and you'll find tons of info

Don't have this problem, but then again my car only has 400 miles on it. I'll def post if I run into this, but hopefully not.

Definitely have the same thing. As the cabin heats up, they seem to go away (99%). It doesn't really bother me that much, but when I think about it, my 95 Accord with 114K miles on it does not have ANY squeeks, so it makes you wonder. Let me/us know if the dealer can somehow fix this squeek/rattle from the windshield.

I opted to not get the deflector after reading multiple posts on the org about members complaining that it cracks a lot, and that if you don't regularly clean under it, it will leave permanent dirt marks on the roof.

Well I should learn more as the day goes on, I was just wondering if anyone else had encountered these problems.

Thanks!

Yes. Mine has started to do the same thing. There is a TSB for it. It only affects the 2K2. http://www.altimas.net/tsb/ Go to the bottom of the list and look for TSB #: NTB02-084.

Not really. Mine seems to be pretty tight.

Same here. As long as you show them your old one that is cracked, they will order you a new one. If we're lucky, we might see them soon.

How could that sunroof wind deflector be on back-order? I bet they would be able to find one if someone wanted it newly installed on his Maxima.

You'd be surprised. Since there are so many of them broken, they don't have any in stock, so they can't even put them on new cars. I tried to get one at first when I was buying my car, but nobody had them, so I think they "truly" don't have any in stock.

I called Nissan about my wind deflector the other day and they told me Nissan switched vendors because of the problems. Thats why they are so backordered. Probably more Nissan BS but thats the best I have...

SO how is the service at this Morristown dealer? I may bring my car there for a major dashboard rattle when it is cold.
Let me know THanks.

Re: Re: Brought my car in for service today...

The dealer said they heard nothing, I hear it every time I drive my car but I think I know why they didn't find it. When I got in my car, the radio was tuned to a station I don't listen too, so they basically took it for a joy ride probably with the music cranked. I'm not going back to that dealer again.

take them on a ride with you and point out the noise. ive only taken my car in once for a noise and they came out to me and said "lets go for a ride" so i took them out and made sure they knew what noise i was talking about.
