30K service....what's really needed?
30K service....what's really needed?
So I have a 2000 Maxima GLE (auto. trans.), actually it's my girlfriend's, and we've been notified that it's time for the 30K service by way of the odometer (reading approx. 34K) and the "Service Engine Soon" light. When I called the local Nissan dealer here in Long Beach, CA I was quoted just under $500 for the 30K service. He listed a number of services they perform including the usual oil and filter as well as flushing of fluids such as transmission, coolant, etc. Other services involved fuel induction service, throttle linkage inspection, battery service, etc....etc.
My simple question....is all that the "stealer", I mean dealer, quoted me absolutely necessary? If not, which of the services are on the frivolous side? Just trying to not have to fork out that much cash....seems rather excessive. While we're at it, perhaps someone knows of a good Nissan independent mechanic in or around Long Beach, CA?
Thanks to all for your time and feedback!

Five bills is definately high
With out me going outside, and it is cold outside, and checking my owners manual, most of those items look like they need done. Your check engine light shouldn't have come on though, it's not programmed to activate at certain mileage.

Wash it once a year, or more often if required. ;-)
Seriously, the car's first scheduled maintenance (given normal driving
conditions) is at 30K miles or 24 months, whichever comes first. That 30K
service calls for changing the motor oil, oil filter, and air filter. The
rest of the 30K service is "inspect this, that, and the other thing".
Enjoy the ride!
