HID Swap

wassup.

i live in the nyc area and just bought 2001 headlights so i can swap out my 2002 Xenons.
i have way too much stress driving around flushing and going out at night b/c i'm afraid of my lights getting jacked. 2 Max's had their headlights from my block alone, so i decided to prevent the problem and invest in a pair of 2001 headlights.

i was wondering if anyone has done this, and has a write up of how to do it. basically what i'm worried about is which wires i have to connect to what, and if it's basically a plug and play operation.
is there a difference in voltage or current that i have to worry about etc.

thanks guys

email 'bigdogjonx' for a copy of the write-up for a 2k2 swap. you'll have to look at the diagrams and reverse engineer the wiring to go the other way, but it shouldn't too difficult. i've done the normal swap (2k to 2k2) and it was tedious but straightforward.

i'm not sure about the voltages myself since i think the efficency of the HIDs allows them to draw something like 35w while the halogens will draw 65w ? someone check me on that. so going from 2k to 2k2 was simple since the stock wiring allowed a greater load. however, if i recall correctly, the wiring harnesses for the 2k2 and the 2k were the same guage, so you may be ok. if not, it should just be a matter of a relay or two.

and it's not plug n play. you'll have to splice wires. but it's not that bad. like i said, just tedious work. i hope you also bought the harness cuz the 2k2 harnesses won't fit/work properly with the 2k2 lights.

good luck.

Problem here is that many people have asked about this reverse procedure, I would be able to help better if someone emailed me the EL section of the 2k2 ESM so I can do the reverse engineering for you.

same here. but i'll prolly keep em then reinstall them when i'm ready to trade. i could then sell them to someone here for super cheap. i'd rather give an org member a good deal than simply include it with the car for some clueless old lady to buy.

actually, the Infiniti dealership asked if I would leave in my HIDs. They said it would really help them move the car, hence the 16.8K offer for it.

regular 2k and 2k1 have clear housings. the anniversary edition housings have like a graphite tint/accents. take a look at irvine78's car. he has em. but not sure if they're on his hompage.
and yeah, i agree with tim. if you're gonna spend cash for these lights, get the AE. they look much better.

lol if they cost the same..everyone would rather get those but I don't think there is a big difference in price? You may have to check up on that. The AE lights kind of look bronzish.
