lol... if so, i feel his pain... I used to own a Stealth ES (222hp) automatic... let me just tell you a little story about how much i hated that transmission... Imagine being able to go 55 mph in first gear, now tell me that's the kind of first gear you want in an automatic "sports car"... I had a hard time spinning my tires in the RAIN. The automatics are slowwwwwwwww, however the 5 speed stealth's/3000GT's you run into, turbo or not will hang with any stock VQ30DE it runs into.

i hear ya. i own 2 twin turbo models and my GF has a 95 RT NA. we did drive 2 seperate autos just to try em out and they are horrible.

in all honesty her NA will pull my max from a roll. from a stop the max has better traction though so ill be ahead till about 80 when she starts creepin up on me.

heck..she hangs with my VR4 from a roll pretty damn good.

Have you ever driven a modded SHO V6 Taurus? Those things are no joke at all. They can make every bit if not more HP than the 5.1 Gen Max. The ultimate sleeper...a Taurus that really hauls @$$...

i am tech at a ford dealer and have driven auto V6s, 5 speed V6s, and the v8 models many times and know what each feels like and that 5 speed is a damn sleeper. automatic isnt that bad either...having the extra .2 liter helps out.

i had a 92 sho with underdrive pulleys, 75mm m.a.f.,ram air,k\n filter, dynomax exhaust, performance y-pipe,and performance clutch. yea it was fast ,.......but not 160 mph!!!! a 5spd modded 3.05th gen. max is just as fast on highway.by the way i've beaten s.h.o.'s in my max on the highway! 3 so far.80-120 mostly. walk them every time!!!

I drove a stroked and sleeved/bored 3.2L (3.5L) that dynoed at just under 280 FWHP, and TQ was in the mid 260's (all still N/A). That was a beast! it would easily do 160 in the straits..but it didn't handle quite as well as some others I've driven. It was either a '92 or a '93 also...remember the year exactly. They can do it, but where to do it is the real question

i think we are talking about bolt-on modds , not engine overhauling and boreing out cylinders ...........

It was August 1999. Lubbock, TX.
140ish in Audi TT
170ish in Ferrari 550
I couldn't get out of the garage in Ferrari 512M, my a$$ was too big to close the door. He said it was faster than the 550 but I will never know.
I'm 43 now.

To this day I get a little chubby thinking about my seat time in the Ferrari. It was/is so far out of my league... My friend let me ring it out all I wanted, as long as he went along. He would only let me drive it in sport mode which is ferrari speak for traction control.
The very first time I launched it I red lined it and it started shooting ducks in a major way. I thought that I had killed it. Turns out the rev limiter cuts the ignition to individual cylinders unlike my maxima which just cuts the fuel off abruptly. It is the only car I have ever driven that would run with a crotch rocket from a dead stop.
I will never forget it.

speed

Fastest I've driven, I'd guess 155-160 (speedo was pegged @ 150 & tach was past redline). Car, A borrowed silver anniversary corvette (1978 I believe); had an all-aluminum 383 engine ordered direct from GM racing division. Age, 19.

Fastest in current Max: 80 ('03, still not broken in, only had it 2 days!). In my other Max (a 91 w/ every suspension upgrade you can get from Stillen) I occasionally drove 125~130 from age 23-29 and the Max was as stable at 110 as a Taurus at 65!

I didn't see any parameters on what we had to post. It just says what is the fastest you've driven. I've driven over 1300 MPH too, but that was in my Navy days

Man, it would be my wet dream to have a Ferrari pull up next to me at a red light while I was out on the bike it would do better than other cars....But they still run in the 12's correct? Most street bikes will run in the 11's with Steve Erkel riding it

I agree: SHO's do haul @ss. That's why I bought my wife one years ago. Don't knock em til you run em. And yes, the V6 will do 160 mph when modded. Without sweating. They will rev 8500 rpm all day long with simple external mods. They actually can run higher rpms above 9k. 7500 is governed stock rpm. I'd like to see a Max engine run 8500 so easy. To bad the rest of the Taurus is not built as the motor.

I only got my NA 95 (sold now) up to 145-148, that was mainly with bolt on's (plus cams) on a 3.0. Here is a pic of my 90 that I had at 160+.

That's what I'm talking about! SHO, one of the ultimate sleepers (when you de-badge it). It's one of the only domestic sedans that I've ever liked due to it's taking mods so well, and the fact that it will just plain rev like an Indy car when modded properly. Contour SVT's are dogs in comparison to the same level modded SHO. Why do you think so many CSVT owners are going with the 3.0L swap? Hell, I was 6 months from doing that myself (before I bought my Max )

that s.h.o. is not slightly modded.what i was saying before is a auto sho compared to an auto 2k max. both with same modds that max would likely win. i've already proven that in 2-3 races. now hao about a turbo max or supercharged maxima??????

Well, I think it would be close. What did the auto Max's run stock in auto form?

As far as a boosted Max, I would love to run one. What kind of times are they pulling?

I hope to God I get 14.7 out of my auto when I take it to the track. The first time I go I'll do full street trim, just to see how it does. After that, I'll take out the spare/jack/etc...
