5th Gen owners with non bose system
How does the SCV setting in the non bose system work? I can't figure it out. It has the Low, Mid, and High setting. Sometimes i feel like it seems to be working, but most of the time i think it doesn't do jack. I have a 2k3 SE with the non bose system. My dealer told me that it raises the volume or lowers it accordingly to keep the volume level i set. It supposedly uses the microphone besides the key to detect the noise level. Is that at all accurate.
Can someone break it down for me a little?
Thanx

I have mine set on Mid. I really notice it around 80 mph. It kinda seems to increase volume in 10 mph increments, but I am not sure.
It doesn't raise the number on the head unit though right? Sometimes it does feel like it's working though. On the right side, behind the steering wheel, besides the key hole, under the dash you have something that looks like it could be a microphone. The dealer said that it was a microphone, is it correct?

I think that thing by the steering wheel is for the automatic temp controls, but I am not 100% sure.
Check in your manual. It says that the SCV is controlled by the vehicle speed, not a microphone.
I pulled off my dashboard for a gauge swap and there was nothing behind that thing next to the keyhole, no microphone, no temp controls, nothing but empty space...maybe it's because I have a bare-bones 2k1 GXE?

Same thing here, the SCV does nothing on my car. Volume of the stereo does nothing at highway speeds.

Pin 22 (Red with a Black Strip) on the back of the HU connects to the trip computer in the dash. That is how the radio knows when to turn up or down. There is no microphone mounted anywhere. The system does not change the numbers on the volume ****, but it does change the relative volume to the number... (i.e.)
SCV Off + Volume at 12 = 36dB
SCV Low + Volume at 12 = 39dB
SCV Med + Volume at 12 = 42dB
SCV High + Volume at 12 = 45dB
(The dB numbers are not actual measured numbers, they are just used for illustration purposes)
