Thinking about getting a new maxima

Hi i currently have 300zx TT 1990 and i am looking at the new maxima 2000-2003 I like the head lights and the body and the engine of the 2003 but not the price. Is the 2000 maxima able to be moded to the hp of the 2003 and is it possible to get 12seconds out of the 2000 engine. Any bad things about 2000 versus other years? Any info or documents would be greatly appreciated

With just bolt ons you wount be able to get the power of a 2k3 if you go with a 2k-2k1. A supercharger or nitrous changes that though. A 12 second maxima is possible but not easy. You need boost, drag radials and a manual tranny with a good driver.

2k2 manual (6 speed) transmissions SUCK! I'm on my second one right now and am going on Monday to show the manager how this one is actually worse than the first one. If you do get a Max, go with a 2k-2k1, NOT a 2k2/2k3.

I'm sure you could do it without boost...y-pipe, cat, catback, flywheel, CAI, and UDP would probably make up for the 18hp (if you think the real hp is 240) or even the 33hp (if you buy Nissan's numbers).

You certainly can, but there is no kit for the 5th gen yet. One of the members here, Y2KevSE, is working on taking the 4th gen turbo kit and converting it to a 5th gen. Several 4th gen's are turbocharged. Stillen sells a supercharger kit for the 5th gen at www.stillen.com. There is a forum here dedicated to boost if you want more detailed answers.

Get a 2002 Maxima. It is the same as the 2003. I just got one yesterday. Perl White SE. It is great. Check Autotrader the prices are anywhere from 10K - 20K depending on what you want.

If you're choosing between the 2002 and the 2003, I would go for the 2003. I'm thinking Nissan got rid of SOME of the bugs that the 2002 has (i.e. I haven't heard of anyone with a 2003 6 sp having problems). Other than that, they're all great cars for the $$$.

Good luck.
