This ever happen you?

I de-badged my car after I got it, and I've had at least 3 people ask me if I bought an Altima??? To cap it off, I had a guy in an Alty 3.5 give me a wave today.

Have I befriended idiots, or does this happened to anyone else? Thanks for entertaining my rant.

It's really not hard to tell the difference, some people just don't know their cars.

i took it in for an oil change (mobil station), left my car outside and went inside to tell him that i needed an oil change. a MECHANIC looked outside and said, is the altima yours?

my car is fully badged too. go figure.

what's wrong with people in 3.5L Altimas??

I don't get this thread.

The thing that sucks is people in my school think the Altima is better than the Maxima (overall) and costs a little over 30K.

exactly. people are like why didnt you get the altima. i say because the max is better and faster... although thats debateable. people always say.. nice altima. i politely explain to them that its a maxima... nissans flagship and their like ohhhhhhh. but once they get in thay are like " wow this is a really nice car."

Ok guys, i kid you not on this one...

I debadged my car a while ago also, and i took my car to the Nissan dealership for them to fix something in my car and the guy said he liked my altima! I looked at him for a second and said, excuse me? And he said, i like the clears and the dark tint on the altima it makes it look agressive. And i said 'what about on a maxima, since that's what i drive!' Let's just say that i was a little scared to trust this guy with my max!!!

Why you guys hate'n us Alti owners??? What we do to you? They do look similar comong at you from the front, but that is where it stops. I bought the Altima because i loved the new style and the interior was more roomy...However, cheap as hell! I actually could have had a Max Loaded cheaper..with better finance rates. Altima fully loaded is over priced...period. As far as shich car is faster....who knows? I really don't care, but they have to be close. I can't wait to see the new max in person...It seems every time Nissan makes a new model...I am not crazy about the pics...but when I see it in person, I go nuts.. ie. Altima, 350, Murano. Hey I'll still wave at you flagship guys

a ticket that I got a long time ago had the description and tag number of the car in front of me....needless to say it was thrown out...I told the judge "how did he know I was speeding if he didn't know what car I was driving?" he thought that was funny

Nothing against Altimas or anyone who drives one. We're all one big happy VQ family . Its just amazing how many people haven no clue about cars. And why is it that witnesses to crimes are never auto enthusists? "Witnesses report the suspects as driving a mid 90s domestic white 4-door"

No but, I was at the barber shop one day and some chick comes in asking who's driving the dark grey (grey lustre) sentra. I looked out the window, and the only nissan out there was my 2k2 Max. I didn't move it till they made the announcement over the paging system, this time just saying Nissan.

When I came back in the shop I said loudly, that I had to go move my $30,000 Sentra.

She is probably telling the same story to her friends right now...except her version of the story ends...

"And this moron paid $30K for a friggin' Sentra."

My biggest niggle is people thinking Maximas are four cylinders!!
Oh and one thing that really scared me was, when I took my Maxima to a Firestone place to get the brakes checked. They said I need to get some new pads for the rear brake drums! I needless to say haven't gone back...

i have had people ask me if I bought the 4-cyl Maxima or got the 6-cyl version before too.

If that shop can't tell the difference between disc and drum...please never go back for the safety of your car

thats a good idea, but the problem is that he did have the correct plate...my speeding ticket i guess couldnt have been avoided either way, but the one about sound, i might have been able to pull something off...damn, well maybe next time haha

Well, some people just have no clue about cars, and I think if you asked them anything about a car other than a Maxima, they'd probably say something stupid as well. We, as car enthusiasts (and more so, Maxima enthusiasts) know more about the car then the vast majority of people out there, so I wouldn't be surprised if someone asked me how much I paid for my Altima/Sentra/Honda/fill_in_the_blank (I got a 2003 Max though).

Now, if a mechanic or repair shop says something absurd (such as drum rear brakes), then I'd be looking for a new shop real quick. For them to say something like that is unacceptable, but for others, what can you do?
