New Track Times.. 2K2 on 19's auto ...

Well, all I have to say is that I was shocked.., since everyone said I couldn't do it with my 19's....

60 Ft = 2.25
330 = 6.273
1/8 = 9.577
mph = 75.64
1000 = 12.4
1/4 = 14.823
Mph = 94.100

My previous best was 14.88 @ 93.33

This was done with nothing removed, My 19's with Nitto 555's which spin all through first gear. No BS track tinkering....

Just a quick extra piece of info, I swapped with an Injen for one run, because my KN is dirty as hell , and I got a 15.3 @ 89 MPH !

So I went back to KN..

I did 8 runs total. 5 were in 14.90-14.98 range.. and one 15.3 ( with injen )..one 14.89.. and my best run......

Happy to see my 19's can hang ! Now its time for Y pipe , catback and some SPRAY

BTW, a lot of West coast ORG members were there.... who saw it, and my best run is on video.. Hope to get it soon !
This was at California Speedway in Fontana !

well, it's not really the intake itself.. but rather that puny little filter. The K&n on the frankencar is twice the size (canister looking), while the k&n on the injen is a small cone shaped velocity stack

kloogy lost 4 mph and .5 sec in the qtr mile just by switching an intake. Sometimes its the small things that count.

You just swapped out the FILTER, right? Not the entire intake?

If the filter alone caused gains like that, you can believe there will be a new one on my car TOMORROW!!!

I was there.

He raged on a turbo integra that was slicked up, you just see the 19s spinning the integra was like WTF??? keep in mind this was at Fontana which has around a 1500ft elevation, if he were closer to sea level, he could be doing 14.6

Is there any site that corrects 1/4 mile times for elevation?

found it:

Absolutely not true. His car ran well on heavy rims but remember, they're not significantly heavier than the stockers he ran on before. Swap in some lightweight 17s and he'd cut time in the 1/4 if the car doesn't boil the tread off. As for looks, well... 17s gotta step aside on that one.

Congrats on the new best.

As for your 1500' elevation, it does hurt your ET/MPH, but it's not going to drop you from a 14.82@94mph down to a 14.2@97mph. Running at sea level will drop you about .2 seconds and add 1mph.

That's very interesting about the Injen. What was you timeslip like with the Injen? If you 60' was in the 2.4 range vs the 2.2 range, that can easily account for an increase of .4-.5 second in the 1/4 mile.

Your 19s probably aren't significantly heavier than your overweight stock rims and that's why you're not seeing a detirmental effect on ET/MPH. The EVO 5s weigh ~28lbs in a 19" rim. The tires probably weigh 24-26lbs so you're looking at a combo of 52-54lbs. The stock weight is already a whopping 52lbs (new tires)!!!! There is more inertial weight further from the rim, but it's not terribly significant. Given the same 60', I think you would be marginally quicker with the 17s though. There's no denying the physics involved. On a lower torque producing car like the 3.0 VQ and VE, heavier rims will make things worse. If heavy rims with super low profile tires were so great for drag racing, serious drag racers would be running them.

Kloogy, those rims are beautiful. It's nice to know they don't affect times as much as previously thought.

My last run was 14.8 with stock rims and Injen in my auto 2k2 (with a 1/2 tank of gas, spinning potenzas and wrong pressure). I couldn't correct any thing as I couldn't get more runs in - threw a SES from the throtttle respose recall thing they did wrong.

Everyone ran better as the night went on , track heated up and temps dropped. I was :sad: . Really wanted to get a better run in.

If you put the Injen (pipe and all) on for 1 run, wouldn't the ECU need time to adjust for optimal air / fuel ratio? I thought that was one of the problems with dynoing Injen off then Injen on (besides the lack of a real-like forced air across the front of the car.
I'm not trying to justify, just bringing up other reasons for the dismal time with the Injen. Also, what was the temp? I think the Injen is more effective in summer than winter - in winter the temp differences are less.

Just wondering.

Kloogy,

Why didn't you run a few times without a filter? A quick run down the 1/4th mile track wouldn't hurt anything. Besides, your MAF is still there. I wonder what kind of amazing times you could have had, had you ran without your filter.

I don't think that would have been a good idea, since 2k2-3 MAF are very sensitive.
