Anyone else not getting jack for their Max???

I've been to three dealerships, and the most anyone will give me for my 2k1 AE Majestic Blue 5sp is $17500. Do our cars really have that bad of resale value?? It was $31000 new!

Dealer trade in value sucks. $31k new? damn that's expensive.

the used car market is in the dumper. Yes the resale value is lower than say a Honda or Toyota and it's unfair.

You have a nice car, AE is the nicest, keep it. And I like the pics, looks like an ad for Nissan.

Ya know...

I almost bought a 1999 SE with 50,000 miles for $16,000 in September! Not to mention that it had some pretty bad scratches. Apparently the dealers don't go by the resale values when they sell them. Thank God the deal fell through

I'm happy that I ended up getting a new 2003 SE. I don't plan to sell it for a very long time so I'm not too concerned with the resale. Sucks though...I feel for you Private sale is your best bet. More work, but you will get more money.

Thanks! I hate to get rid of it, but I need more room. None of the dealers think the car is as rare as I do. I tell them they only made 20 like mine, and they don't beleive me! I guess I'm going to have to try and sell it privately.

I only paid $20,900 for my 2K2. You must have every option available to have paid $31K. But the dealers do put it to you when you trade a car in. Best to sell it to an individual.

Hey Larry, check your sig link. I wouldn't try promoting anyone that has dash kits for a toyota maxima.

They say that to get you to give into their crappy deal, but they know all well that your car is rare. I say keep it if you can.

2001 Maxima SE 20th AE:

Trade-in: $19,040
Retail: $21,875

These numbers are from the current Southeastern Edition of the NADA. I was unable to factor in the mileage but, you are allowed up to 35k before you have to deduct. You should stop by your local bank and look at the one for your region. It might help you get a little more.

How much room to you need in your vehicle I would think the Maxima would be adequate. Did your family grow a lot in 2 years. I would definately keep my AE Maxima for as long as possible especially if you paid 31K for the car.

With the amount of money you would loose by trading you could get a late model SUV to haul the family and still keep your AE... Which is one of the most beautiful Maximas on the road especially in Majestic blue!!!

Yea I know about that mistake. I had a real sharp web writer and now I can't get it changed. I have a lot of things to change on my site but no luck so far.

Duh, That's why you don't buy a car until it's a two years old. That's when it'a at the bottom of it's depreciation curve.

People don't care if your car is rare. Seriously, a Limited Edition means nothing to buyers (unless it was a BMW limited edition or something like that). Only we know what the difference is between the AE and the regular SE because we are maxima enthusiasts...but the rest of the population don't even care and wouldnt pay extra for different headlights.

lets say the auction vlaue of your car is 18k. that said why would a dealer pay you 18k for your car to only break even if it doesnt sell on the lot and he has to sell it at the auction. he wants to make money ther to so he'll lowball you, 17k so if it goes to auction he can still make some $$$$. either way he is trying make $$$, if you accept the deal he will sell the car for ~23k. (rare color) honestly if a dealer wanted your car on his lot he would buy it at the auction.

that percieved better resale/trade in value on "other" brands is a load of bull. that perception is driven by the consumers that believe and are willing to pay more money for a camry/accord over a maxima.

3 (or 4) yrs ago i bought a 93SE VE 5SP maxima, love the car. in my opnion the maxima blew away the accord and camry in "valeu."

for 7k what would you like?

A: a 93SE VE5SP Maxima- pwr windows locks sunroof heated mirrors cloth seats.
B: a 93 Accord EX-pwr windows locks sunroof cloth seats 4cyl engine and higher milage~90k
C: a 93 Accord LX-same as EX but no sunroof and the milage may be a little less than the EX Accord ~85-90K
D: a 93 Accord DX- no power options but milage is ~75k 4 cyl engine.
E: a 93 Camry- pwr windows locks sunroof cloth seats 6cyl with higher milage.
F: a 93 Camry -pwr windows locks sunroof cloth seats 4cyl motor with the same milage
G: a 93 Camry - strippie with no power and said 4 cyl engine, possibly less milage.
H: a V6 Camry/Accord with the same options as the Max and pay more money recieve less Hp more miles (and get stuck with a auto tranny for those oh you who value a 5 sp.

you tell me.
