Maxima 2K2 Auto vs Mercedes Benz CLK 430 Auto

Hey guys my friend owns a 2000 CLK 430 Auto and he wanted to race me? Do I even have a chance? Which car is faster from 0 to 60? And which car can go from 60 mphs to 100 faster on the freeway? Thanks.

Just do it and find out. Or better yet do it and make sure you are at the track.

Is your friend going to leave his E-Brake on???

BTW you can search the I-net for 0-60 times and get a better idea.

It should be a good matchup if you have an intake. If he wins it shouldn't be a killing.

Looking at the HP and Torque to weight ratio at "Carpoint.msn.com"

CLK430 should win without a problem, but you will give him a good run.

Maxima CLK430

3.5L 255 hp V6 / 4.3L 275 hp V8

HP 255@5800 RPM / 275@5750 RPM

Torque 246lb/ft / 295 lb/ft.

Displacement 3500 CC / 4266 CC

Considering his car Cost twice as your Maxima, and it would probably beat a stock 6spd. Race him and find out.

Now consider the weight of both cars, dont only look ate the HP and TQ, CLK 430 is a cow, I really think that the max would give it a good run if not beat it.

rear wheel drive, and a superior transmission.

i own an auto 2k2, and have driven a clk 430 a fair amount. personally, i don't think the auto would stand much of a chance. just by feel, i feel like the 6spd will give it a good race.

happy holidays to all!

a 430??? you're kidding right? first off, benz doesnt even make the 430 anymore, they went up to the 500...

now even if its an '01 430, it does 0-60 in 6.7 (auto of course) no doubt itll be close at that point, but throw in some curves, or go past 70 mph and your max will be eaten alive...those things are beasts when it comes to highways...thats what theyre made for....electronically limited to 155

at the risk of getting laughed at

Almost a year ago I raced a E430. The guy was trying to cut me off and I don't believe he expected to even have any difficulty. He wasn't happy having to see my bumper. But again I believe he never expected a fight and wasn't all that serious.

i dont know about an auto 2k2 max, but i took on a clk 430 on the highway about 2 months ago... im doing 80 in 5th, and i see him coming up on me so i downshift to 4th, and floor it... i slightly pulled on him but not much, and i took it up to about 120 with him still not able to catch up to me... the highway was curving a little bit though, and i wasnt gonna keep accelerating at that speed, too crazy for me.. i also had a friend in the car (ny96max) and the guy in the clk was alone.. when i let off he kept going, i guess he was kinda ****ed that he couldnt catch me, and i think he was also in a rush, thats why he came up on me in the first place

correction, they do still make the clk430, as well as clk320, and now the clk500 which replaces the clk55

Nope, your're wrong on that one...they do NOT make the 430 in coupe form...they make it in cabriolet (convertible) form only..based on the old body style.

The coupe is availbale in three forms: 320, 500, and the 55 (AMG) which is not yet availbale but soon will be...

look at my name and you'll know why i know so much about these cars

trust me, i know just as much as you probably know , your statement was false, you said they no longer make the 430, which they do, maybe not in coupe form, but it is still produced in soem form, which therefore makes your statement false

What are you the Benz police... you cruise every single forum looking for some facts that are misrepresented... I love it how you have to make everyone AWARE in your infinite internet-wisdom that the 4.3 engine isn't being put in the CLK body... even though the guy first stated that it was in fact a clk430... you guys crack me up. What's next, the Hyuandai forum.. someone think their XG300 can take out a C240 4-matic???

Thank god for people like you --- cuz we all can't just go to any one of 6 million different auto websites to determine this trite information.

Good luck in your mission Mr. Mercedes!

CarTest2000 shows both cars running high-14 second ET's, but with the Benz trapping a good bit higher. This means the following...

You may be able to pull a bit on the Benz off the line and at lower speeds, but once you cross 80 mph and hit that nasty tall 3rd gear, the Benz is gonna pull like mad. Probably about even at the 1/4 mile line, but with the Benz going faster = passing. They have a 5AT with much closer ratios vs the Max's wider ratio 4AT.

The Benz is a tad heavier, but not all that much. But the VQ35 isn't putting out only 246 lb-ft of torque either. It's more like 260-265 lb-ft. So it'll give the Benz a good run, but the Benz will eventually pull at higher speeds.

Just race (at a track) and find out

Well its not like i dream about one day having this car....I own 2 mercedes' myself..thats why i know so much...just like you know a lot about maximas, because you own them

I was simply trying to say that MAximas have no chance against a benz when it comes to high speed races beyond 60-70 mph

that all

Hey buddy, check out my signature.. '99 E320 4-matic... I'm in the market for an E500 to replace that, cuz I trade in Benz's at 30,000 miles. My last '96 C280 purchased new had 22,000 miles on it... too many for my blood.

You are too funny! I don't dream about Benz's.. I buy 'em. Take care.

And to finally attack your main argument -- the 6-spd maxima WILL hang with a CLK430 on a highway run, it may not stick w/ it nose to nose, but driven properly it will hang within a carlength. If you dispute this, then you're not a true enthusiast because your love for your cars has biased your automotive opinions.

Quit being an @sshole man. It doesnt take a genius to state facts about any Mercedes, just go to MBusa.com. I have driven numerous Benzs, including a few AMGS and they arent all they are cracked up to be. Even in the AMGs I have drivem, the suspension is way too soft for serious driving and there SHOULD be a manual transmission as a option. Thats why ///M appeals more to me and will continue to be the leader.

Thats being said, you are wrong saying no maxima will hang with a CLK430 above 60.

yea man the AMG's are nuts...the SL55 can do 0-60 in 4.8...imagine what they can potentially do with 6-spd;s

buddy, can you read? he said 2000 CLK 430.

secondly, EVERY word in your second paragraph misses your attempt to disagree with me. i never said anything about curves, and didn't i say that the 430 will win?
