Steering wheel CLUNK?

I think I remember a TSB about the rack-n-pinion hitting something.

Pretty much as I turn the steering wheel from side-to-side I get a clunk or POP. It's not everytime, but it seems to happen more often now. I'm not sure I can repeat the "symptom" for a Nissan Tech.

Anyone else have this and get it fixed? Anyone know where that TSB is?

Thanks in advance!

How close are you w/ your service guys? I had mine look one up AND print it for me in their computer. Of course, I did it after the service department had closed and the guys were getting ready to go home...

Not close.

I'm not sure if there is one, I just thought I remembered reading something about a bolt in the way of the rack hitting. I'm really hoping to find someone else who's had it fixed, so I know what to expect.

More info:
I really only notice the clunking at low speeds usually as I'm pulling or backing into a parking spot. It seems to happen at 60-90 degress(2-3 o'clock and 9-10 o'clock) position.

Anyone have any ideas?

our PF does that.. Nissan is clueless. 3 dealers / 6 visits (not all for just that) over the last 2 years. Only does it when its cold. bizarre. needless to say, since they cant find the problem, its *normal*.

Reason for Recall
One of the parts of the front suspension on your vehicle which is called the transverse link may break where it is mounted to the frame. This may cause a knocking sound and abnormal steering. This may result in difficulty controlling the vehicle which, if ignored, could cause a crash.

What Nissan Will Do
In order to prevent this incident from occurring, your Nissan dealer will replace the transverse links on the left and right sides with new ones. This free service should take about two hours to complete, but your Nissan dealer may require your vehicle for a longer period of time based upon their work schedule.

What You Should Do
Contact your Nissan dealer at your earliest convenience in order to arrange an appointment to have your vehicle repaired. If you notice a knocking sound from the front of your vehicle and/or abnormal steering, you should stop driving and contact your Nissan dealer to arrange to have the vehicle towed to the dealer for repair.

If the dealer fails, or is unable to make the necessary repairs free of charge, you may contact the National Consumer Affairs Office, Nissan North America, Inc. at P.O. Box 191, Gardena, California 90248-0191. The toll free number is 1-800-NISSAN1 (1-800-647-7261). If you reside in Hawaii, please call 1-808-836-0888.

You may also contact the Administrator of the National Highway Traffic SafetyAdministration, 400 Seventh Street, S.W., Washington, D.C. 20590 or call the toll-free Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.

Thanks, but my VIN doesn't apply. Although, that doesn't mean it's not the problem, just that Nissan won't fix it under a recall.

My car has also been doing the same exact thing since I got it. On my way to work, I make a right turn and I can feel a pop in the steering wheel. It usually is worse when it's cold. My 2001 actually isn't one of the VINs listed. And I'm sure there's no way I could replicate it for a nissan mechanic.

Ok...

IF I find out what it was and get it fixed, I'll let you guys know.

I need my side-mirror wobble fixed anyways.

Same Thing

Same as Steelymatt .....

I've been ignoring it for while because I'm petty sure my '02 isn't part of the recall VIN #'s affected.

But every morning when i make a LEFT HAND turn under acceleration (not hard accel) I get a crunching-popping sound. from the front right wheel assembly.

Similarly, I doubt i could replicate it for a Nissan tech, especially when it's warm.

I haven't really put it to the test - but now I'm wondering!?

Is there a possibility there maybe something wrong with one of your strut towers/bearings?

Ignore it, until you get into an accident, and then sue Nissan since yours (and my) VIN wasnt included. Probably be more successful than the 15hp suit.

On the other hand, I have a clunking in my hip, when I make a left turn to exit my car. Ever since I bought these cut Eibachs.....
