Need opinion on service

Hi guys,

I brought in my 2003 SE on Tuesday to have service done for the SES light. They said due to ordering parts and to have a Nissan tech check it out, I would have to leave the car for three days.

It has been three days, but they said that the part hasn't come in and so the job won't get done for the weekend and maybe not even next week due to the holidays. They gave me a rental (2003 Stratus), and said that they would take care of any charges for the car.

I was wondering... Is this normal for SES repairs (leaving the car with them for this long)? With my imagination, I've been conjuring up thoughts that they may be swapping some of my parts for others. Is that possible?

Any suggestions to handle this?

Thanks

What code did it throw? or did they tell you what part they need to order? If it's serious, it may be best not to drive the car. Did you purchase the package that includes a free rental car?

The service writer probably just needed a car to drive this week

Frankly, I would call and ask them what they think the problem is, and why it is taking so long to repair. I had an SES light twice, and in both instances O2 sensors (all 3) needed to be replaced, and in one instance they needed to update a fuel delivery program or something. (I'm very technical)

Best of luck.

No code... They said that they need to replace the instrument cluster. Between getting the part and having a nissan tech come in, they said it would take 3 days from Tuesday. The only thing is that the part has not come in yet, and with the weekend and holiday, they said it may take up to a week.

I just wanted to know what you all think. Is there something fishy that could be going on, or do I not have anything to worry about?

It is a 2003 SE, purchased in mid November. No rental car clause in warranty, Nissan North America did this for me as a service.

Thanks for your opinions and help!!

My dealer said they would replace my cluster, also. I had the 'faint' SES light glowing. Nothing wrong with the car, though (no codes). If that's your case, there is no reason why you can't drive the car. I have not gone ahead with the replacemant yet, but will at some point. The faint light is a pain, but I've learned to live with it.

Get mad and tell them to take the part from one of their new cars that are for sale. How did you end up with a Dodge loaner vehicle from a Nissan dealer?

Dont think they can do this. I think it has to be "programmed" with mileage and what not from the "factory". I did not think the dealer could do this.

Make SURE to keep track of time the car has NOT been in your possession. Document every phone call and every answer. Reason is that if you have problems in the future, its one more step towards a lemon law claim.

But consider yourself lucky because you got a loaner. Almost all nissan dealerships wont give you one.

Do the new 2003s and 2002s have a bunch of problems? I'm seeing many posts from owners with little glitches here and there. I'm sorry to hear of those issues, since my 99 SE has not had one issue to date, there might be some TSBs out there for it.

The loaner Stratus was from Enterprise. The great thing about that is that now wherever I drive, I don't worry about theft and the lights. My girlfriend says that she'll actually get out of the car now when we go to the store.

The whole thing is that they have to get the part from nissan and since they have to get the mileage back to what it was, a nissan tech has to come in. That's what they said. And with the holidays and weekend, who knows how long that will be.

I'm actually nervous that they will use my car to take parts out of or to drive around. Should I be worried about that?

Thanks!!

The service manager is probably driving down on I-95 right now to visit some relatives in sunny Florida. But don't worry. If he wrecks the car, they'll give you a brand new '03 or better yet an '04 Max.
