15" Wheels for 2002 GLE

I pull my car into a repair shop for oil change and I talked to the guy about my road noise coming from my Bridgestone tires and ask him if he will do a noise isolation project for my 2002 MAX GLE.

He told me just change my wheels from stock 17" to 15", I will see a dramatic improvement and save lots of money and works ....

I am actually considering his approach seriously ..... I am not that speed oriented, but I like my MAX (It's powerful).

Anyone has any suggestions on this ?

Why do lots of MAX owners go for bigger wheels ? any advantage ?

personally, i think the 2k2 would look ugly with 15's. there are many people who think the 2k2 GLE rims are beautiful (me included). an alternative would to doing some sound insulation to filter out the noise. do a search on this, there are many options. i haven't tried it yet, but i've heard good things.

First of all 15" rims won't fit on a 2k2 because they will not clear the front calipers. The smallest that will fit are 16s.

Secondly, the RE92s are loud tires. The amount of tire noise has nothing to do with the size of the tire, but with the tire itself. Run away from this guy.

i would think the suspension characteristics would change with 15" rims, not that they would fit anyway.

Jaws is correct. I tried installing older max 15" wheels for winter rims, no way, they hit the front calipers, go for 16" if you have too. In my opinion you would be better just replacing the stock tires with a quieter running performance tire (do a search.)

Jaws and Frankie are correct. I tried putting 15" steel wheels on for winter and they didn't fit. I got 16" wheels and they are too small. I believe 18" is the best size for a 2k2 but that's just this man's opinion.
