suggested oil

I looked in the manual but couldn't find it. What type of oil does the 2k2 require (synthetic/non-synthetic), and are there any other specifications that the oil should have? Thanks.

2k2 recommands 5w-30 oil (Synthetic or none its up to you)

10w-30 can also be used but dealer recommands 5w-30.

Personally I use Mobil 1 5w30 Synthetic.

I've also been using Mobil1 5W30 but since I'm changing it every 3k miles I'm thinking of switching to a high quality SL oil like Chevron Supreme. FYI, I've never seen a car manual where it does not clearly specify what oil is suitable for use, both in text and graph form.

hmmm...when i got my car, nissan said I'd get the first oil change for free after 1000 miles, so then when i brought it and got an oil change, they said "next oil change should be at 4000 miles" which was 3000 miles later, and then when i got my 2nd oil change, at 4000, they said next at 7000. so since my oil changes are every 3000 miles, that means i'm using non-synthetic oil right? is synthetic better? should i get synthetic starting with my next oil change or is it bad to switch? which is better and what's the difference between them? Thanks

There is nothing wrong with switching to synthetic oil. All synthetic oils are fully compatible with conventional oils. I personally use Mobil One 0W30 instead of 5W30 because it gives me better gas milage. Also make sure to use either a Nissan or an STP oil filter.

Damn...i got my last oil change at jiffy lube, but I have no idea what oil or filter they used. I shoudl probably find out next time. obviously they wouldn't use a nissan filter, but do you think they use an STP filter? and shoudln't they have asked me what kind of oil i wanted?

I'm sure they don't use a quality oil filter because it is not cost effective for them unless you bring it to the shop yourself. And yes, you have the option of asking for the brand of oil of your choice or at least they should've asked you. That's why I change the oil and the filter myself. If you want something done right, you better do it yourself.
