slipping belt???
slipping belt???
I have a five-speed 2000 Maxima with about 52k miles. Recently, my Maxima has started producing a high pitched whining noise while accelerating in first and second gears. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm hoping it is just a loose belt but it kinds of sound like a bad bearing. Does anyone have any advice before I take it to the shop for a diagnosis?
I would appreciate any suggestions.

Does it sound like a loud screech? Does it squeal while idling too? If so, pop the hood while in park and listen around the belts to see if it's coming from there. If it's not, it's probably not the belt. Although if you've gone 50k miles without replacing them, I'd recommend looking into replacing your belts anyways for good measure..

I have the same issue too. It started early this month,(44k miles) only during the morning idle but would goes away after i start to move. But with heavy rain for the last one or two day, it acts up when the windshield defroster comes on. I look and i think it is the pulley too. Maybe i will change the pully and the bells
