15 in wheels on a 2000 SE
I bought a set of 1996 15in Maxima alloy wheels and installed them on my 2000 SE (in place of factory 17in wheels). The change was to accomodate snows for the winter. They went on fine and feel fine but I am hearing a scrape when I back off the throttle. The sound goes away when I hit the brakes also. Any ideas what could be causing the problem?

are you sure your brake pads aren't getting worn down and you just started paying closer attention because of the new wheels? Check your brakes, it may be the warning that your brakes pads need to be replaced.

a couple things come up...make sure there is not something rubbing from the caliper to the inside of the rim
as well have you found out if it is noisier from one side more than the other?...or front to back?
as well can you swap the wheels back and make the noise again?
these may help figure out the causes...good luck!
