Installation help needed.

A couple of weeks ago, my cousin and I tried to install fog lights into my 2k1 SE. Unfortunately, we had no luck. If anyone is in the northern NJ area and has time, I would greatly appreciate it. I read the How-tos and the supporting docs, but still could not get the assembly out. I remember something about releasing the clips and then get ready to catch, but I could not get ready since there was nothing to catch. Any help would be appreciated. Thanx.

Also, if anyone can recommend a place in the same area mentioned above that might do this install and also a manual tranny fluid change, that would also be greatly appreciated. Thanx again.

are we talking about just changing the bulbs? because 2k1 SEs already have fog lights...I'm in Long Island and I've changed my fog light bulbs a million times, so if that's what you need help with I'd be glad to help, but if it's installing the entire assembly, then I'd question whether or not you were sold an SE...

It would be simply changing the bulbs.

did you unscrew the assembly?? and remember that u need to unplug the wire for the foglight as well, otherwise, the assembly will stick there forever.

hope this helps

I think there were 2 or 3 screws and a plastic plug (don't know the term right now), then I remember the instructions saying something about clips, but since there wasn't very good light, I don't know if there were more screws. Either way, I left and drove home with simply headlights on.

yea.. i remember the first time I did it and cut my hands. They are these bolts that are held in place my these tabs that you have to pry apart slowly and carefully while pushing and wedging the foglight fixture outwards. Make sure you have a small flat head to wedge and move within that confined space. I'll try to take some pics if this still doesn't help

Yea, I remember those clips. Couldn't budge them. I wanted to just push the assembly out, broken or not. It was very frustrating.

Here are some good instructions with pics...

Installing Fog Light Bulbs on 2000+ Maximas

This is different than the 2002-2003s. Here is a good install link for them:

2002-2003 Fog Light install (as well as every other light on the car!)

Hope this helps, my 2k3 was a piece of cake with the lower set of instructions.

ah, I get it now...I used Russ's instructions, just a few points of note

I used a flathead to push the plastic plugs out, and since everything was unscrewed, the whole assembly just popped right out...be ready with a towel and another person to catch the light. when you're unscrewing the housing for the bulb, don't break the plastic tab that sticks up and holds the gray socket thing. I thought it was supposed to come off - it doesn't. other than that, it's pretty simple after that, just don't forget that you shouldn't touch the bulb.

Thanx guys. I guess I'll just try to give it another shot. Everyone is saying that it is so easy, so either it is my inexperience with cars, or I'm just missing a screw or something. The clip seemed to be giving me the most problems. I used Russ's instructions too. Maybe I just can't read.
