'00 Bose HU Replacement

I hate to ask this as there are so many posts in ref to this topic, but I have a few questions I couldn't find answers to.

I have a 2000 SE w/the Bose system. What would be the easiest and least expensive way to swap HU's. I am 32 y/o w/a family and I'm not big into modding. I like custom wheels (b/c I feel it gives the car character and personality) and I like a bad *** stereo.

Ultimately I'd like to swap the HU & the crappy SUB (maybe get a solobaric b/c it's easy on airspace), then see how it sounds. Can I use the Bose amp? Or will that need replaced too?

See, I'm not hip to these "Premium Factory Sound Systems". I have done several stereo installs, but not on a system like this. In my day, you'd swap the HU, install some after-market speaks using the existing wiring, run an RCA to the trunk for the subs and that was it.

So, any help/advice/insight, etc. will definately be appreciated.

easiest thing, add another sub to the bose and upgrade the front tweeters, will make a huge diff and you wont have to worry about theft.

other than that, pick a dash kit, there are harness adaptors like you'd expect. You can use the bose and speakers, or take them both out. The bose amp and speakers have to stay together.

the factory speaker wiring is ok for everything but highend stuff.

check the audio forum, tons of good info there..

Thanks Tim, I had actually thought about making that he only audio mod too. But I wish the Bose HU had an EQ on it.

the bose does have an EQ of sorts :/ it pulls out the bass with increasing volume. Probably not the EQ you were looking for
