2k2 maxima headlight OXIDATION?

I noticed this in the morning, its the right side headlamp, is this oxidation? I tried cleaning it with soap and water to no avail, I never used windex on my headlights or any wax, My car is about 1.4 years old, I hope it doesnt worsen! Will warranty cover it? I have 7 year B2B warranty, it looks like its getting worser.

Did you try any plastic polish? Sometimes even automotive wax will make a difference.

Of course these are things you could try if your dealer doesn't want to cover them. They'll probably tell you that he'll "see if it's covered." Then after seeing how much the headlight units are they'll come back with, "I'm afraid those aren't covered because of blah blah blah...."

Good luck..........

I have that same oxidation except mine is on both sides and is alot worse. I talked to the dealer and they're having a nissan rep comeover later this month to take a look at it. My service manager was telling me that a few other people have this same complaint. So just sit tight and I'll let you know what happens. Try working things with your dealer as well and let me know what happens.

BTW my car is about 7 months old.

The condensation thing is pretty common from what I have heard it's common with HID equip cars. There was a TSB about it to my knowledge. They used some 3M product to clean the headlight but prior to cleaned made sure the headlights were cleaned and applied the cleaner and buffed it off. Another problem with the 2002-03 Maxima is the Bose head unit I'm still waiting for my replacement... It's been 3 months now

Try looking for an Altima TSB...it tells Nissan service to use 3M polish to clean up the plastic lens. It's a known problem. I believe a BMW owner siad they were having the same problem.

Maybe that Ozone hole thing is for real???

Here we go again...

Prior conversations about this topic:

John: Help, my headlight is hazy in the inside!
Joe: That's OK, I used some plastic polish on the outside, all pretty now!
John: No, it's on the inside, how do I clean it?
Joe 2: Oh, I used some plastic polish on the outside, it looks new.
John: SOB! It's ON THE INSIDE!
Joe 3: Have you tried polishing it?

Hey, let us know if the new ones are crystal clear! I have a feeling they will look like your other ones though...

Hi, I'm one of the SOB's. Now that we got that out of the way.

Before

20 mins and a few dabs of Safecut from Pepboys

and...

Was mine on the outside? Mostly. Is it all gone on the outside? no, but it looks 100x better than before..

When it gets bad enough, I'll get in there and do the inside. Warranty isnt an option for me.

Nuttin' but respect for ya'. You know what I meant. Yeah, I can clean road grime off my lenses too, but some have asked a million times about how to clean the inside safely or whether or not someone has successfully done it and all we get is: "Use some polish on them."

:-)

Is there anyway you could scan a copy of the work order they wrote up and e-mail it to me. I could use it at my dealer and show them that other people are getting it replaced. Thanks

Thats for sure. My neighbor has a 328 and I nbticed it badly in her car. she really could care less and is not about to go to the dealer and "waste her day" as she says. Sometimes, i wonder if she even sees at night too! oh well!

on my 2k lights, I had haze too.. used SafeCut and they were like brand spanking new.

on our pathfinder, I used Safecut yesterday (right before I did my 2k2 HIDs) and they are CRYSTAL CLEAR..

On my 2k2 HIDs, you can see that they are still not as clear as they could be at the top. They must be using some other kind of lexan there. I plan on hitting the a few more times, eventually Safecut will cut thru it. I hope.

Yeah, I found a bee in my tails... and there is some buildup inside the housings. seems to be lots of ventilation in these things.

I think them giving you new housings is great.. but the design is the same. If you are in a humid area, it will be back right away
