Reset ECU Question

I read that on the 4th gen, to reset the ECU you turn the silver screw all the way to the right for 5 seconds, with the key to ON.

Is it the same for a 2001?

The reason is for this question is that the Service Engine Soon light came on and I didn't want to take it to the dealer. The car is at 32k, but is the $400 30k service worth it? Aside from changing the oil, most of the service is "Inspect ____ " and I don't want to pay for inspecting everything. It just had a 22,500 service done not to long ago. I removed the gas cap like one thread suggested but the light is still on. If I clear the ECU and the light comes back, then I guess I will take it in. Is this something that would be covered under warranty? Thanks.

Couple of things here:

1. 5th Gen ECU's are more of a disconnect battery operation

2. I personally don't think the supposed SERVICE they provide is worth it at 30 or 60K. Just make sure everything they look for is looked for by you and the fluids changed.

3. Whether this is warrant work or not depends on what is causing it (like MAF, etc.).

To reset the 2K+, disconnect the battery and press the brake pedal for like 10 seconds.

The CEL does not come on for "service" intervals. Something has tripped a fault code.

If its the gas tank fault, I believe it takes a few key turns/runs for it to go away if I read the owners manual correctly.

If you car is < 36K and < 3 years old... I would have them inspect for warranty work. Once they determine what the issue is and quote you...then you can decide what is the value for you.
