I can't tell you how good it sounds (my opinion)!! It gives the car a nice low end growl and it does not get louder as the rpm's go up which I love. Resonator was left on.

I will have to get pictures because I went with a dual exit 3" single wall tip, different than most others have gone with to this point.

No not really, but I was going for the look and sound anyway. The single wall 3" fit perfect in the rear cut out section.

Other than looks and sound, any benefits? Faster? Better fuel economy? How much does this conversio0n cost? Can you do it yourself?

No benefits of it just being changed as a muffler only. Only benefit is noise. No better fuel economy either. Cost is anywhere from $25-75 to get it installed. Cost of muffler probably $90-125. Cant do it yourself unless you got a welder and muffler hangers.

dual exhaust

Anyone hear anything about dual exhaust for a 5th gen Maxima? I've seen one for the Altima, anyone have any experience with this?

The only way this is going to be done is if you cut into the Wheel well if you want to put a true muffler there. Otherwise it will be nothing but a pipe tapping off the other one and coming round the wheel well and some tips on it.

DOUBLEA, how are you planning on getting the whole muffler on the other side? Cutting the well?

I'm pretty shure I will cut a part of the fake spare tire room, I dont think I will need to cut everything but if we have to cut everything I will do it, one thing I dont know is how the gas thank hold underneath the car, my guest is it attach to the tire room, so I'm just waiting for spring time to arrive and investigate the best way to do it. I'm not going to make a fake dual exhaust I want the real stuff, a dual dual, if you know what I mean, in an ideal situation I'd like to split starting after the main cat, making a Y at the end of the main cats then running 2 x 2.25 or 2.5" piping, whatever's best + 2 small diameter resonators so it can be install side to side until it split for the 2 mufflers, this is my plan, but I'm shure after going under I'll get some surprise. Idealistically, I'd like to build it SS all the way, but maybe I'll make the prototype with standard piping and have a SS piping done after, it's very cheap in term of cost to build mendrel bent with standard material. Let me know what you think, if I can get a clear picture of underneath the car that would help me plan it. I want to be the first one to succesfully build a real dual muff apps for a 5th gen max. A little ambitious project but I like challenge so I think it will be all fun to do.

Maybe I'll put 2 PT muffler like the one we have, if there is enough room.

Cheers

Has anyone seen the underside of a 2004 Max yet? It's got at least partial duals (the dual/dual look out the back). I know it's different platforms and all, but it might still provide more ideas at the very least.

If you want pics of the '04 underneath, I got 'em.

Check my homepage: http://members.cardomain.com/2002maxxxima

It's somewhere on there. a couple pics.

(Yeah, I got down on the ground at the car show.)

Hey 2002Maxxxima, thanks for the 2004 max pics, as shown on the picture we see much less restriction in the exhaust piping of the 2K4, they probably got few HP. That's about the way I want to build my dual exhaust set-up on my 2K1, I know I will have to cut in the spare tire room, but shaving a few pounds only look good to me, I will keep you posted as soon as the weather can allow for outside work.

Cheers

NP!

I haven't really been underneath my 5th gen, but couldn't you mount two smaller mufflers back in there and just run two pipes out to the back? I guess what I am saying is, does the muffler have to be right there on the edge of the bumper? Maybe something like a Mustang? Dunno, just askin'.

Hey 2002Maxxxima, that's not a good idea, it would prevent cutting the spare tire room, if I want to make it like in the picture, cutting the spare room is essential, but running the piping might be easier to, I'll see what look best.

Thanks

Thanks for the 2004 pics. Funny, only another .Org member would understand why you were on the floor taking pictures. I'm sure everyone else was like "What the F is wrong with this guy?"

After looking at the interror pics, can you imagine what's involved in replacing that stereo???? OMFG we thought the Bose was a pain in the a$$!

Yes they were like WTF! My buddy that went with me was like WTF!

Yeah, stereo replacement doesn't look too fun. I'd leave it and mount a new unit in the console or something. Everything is just too integrated on the '04.
