Replace belts at 35k miles???

took my car into the dealership today for my squeaky belts, and thye said I need to have my belts replaced, they said that they were all cracked, my car has 35,000 miles. Does this sound right to you guys? BTW they tried to charged me like $130 to replace the belts. Should I get it done or are they trying to jip me?

Thats sounds soon fro them to be cracking but alot of it has to do with the conditions the car was kept in. Is the car maintained in a cold environment/tropical etc. I didnt change my belts out on my 97 until 61,000 and they werent that bad then, but my car was garage kept.

the car has always been in florida. And it is not garged. I think i'll get a second opinion and then go from there.

Squeaky belts (not slipping, just making some chatter) are usually related to the belts and pulleys polishing up (glazing if you will).

Inspect the belts and pulleys, if the rubber appears to be shiny or if the pulleys looks that way, that will cause the chatter.

There's a belt dressing you can buy at the auto stores that will quiet them down for a bit. New belts will solve the chatter for a bit, but once the belts glaze up again it will be back, usually faster the second set because the pulleys are polished.

Belts usually last up to the 60k range or about 4 years I would say before they dry out. My other car, I change them out when I do the t-belt. about every 60k.

Still make sure the belts aren't physically damaged. I would suggest using OEM if you do replace them. I just bought a full set for my Talon, if I remember right, I think I paid $20 something for each belt but I'm not sure. I may be way off because I bought a bunch of stuff that day.

If you want to do the belts yourself, check these guys out for parts:

I use the mitsubishi guys and they are awesome, I don't know how the nissan guys are. They discount a lot over normal dealer prices and ship anywhere.

I changed mine out at 36K

I inspected my belt @ 36K and it was worn on the side so I replaced it. Went to autozone and get the Goodyear gatorback belt for around $25. Took about 1 hr to change out. Not too hard... Let me know if you need instruction.
