Oil Change Question

I have a question about getting my oil changed. Could I buy my own oil (say Mobile1) and go to the Nissan dealer and give them the oil and just have them do the labor? I've always wondered that, but have never asked. I don't even know if it would be cheaper to buy your own oil than to use the dealers, but I doubt most dealers use Mobile1 as their Synth. I wonder if they would just charge for the labor time? What do you guys think about that idea?

i know some dealers do allow you to bring in your own stuff but others wont because they will purchase the mobil 1 then mark it up again. most nissan dealers that i've been around use castrol so i assume they use castrol synthetic if you request syn. its really an easy thing to do yourself and its not messy unless your careless or try doing it outside and the wind decides to pick. i change mine with mobil 1, use a nissan filter and spend about the same the dealer charges for a regular oil change. and most of the time i end up doing it in less time.

I'm actually planning on doing this tomorrow. I just picked up a case of Castrol GTX 5W-30 (not synthetic), and will buy the OEM filter from them. I don't know if it will be cheaper (would make sense though...), but I'd rather put in the oil that I want. I'm going to observe them doing it (granted that they allow me to watch), and will try to do it myself next time--too cold outside right now to do it.

If you want, I'll let you know if they allowed me to do use my oil. If they don't, I'll just have it changed at some other place that will (Pep Boys).
