2k2 Key Programming

OK stupid question time:

Is there any way to program the key (not the remote) yourself?

I ask this prior to paying $40.00 to my local Nissan dealer for this rediculously high price.

I don't think so. $40 seems like a bargain compared to what my dealer said he would charge. At delivery he indicated another key is $90.

Well that's part of what has me pi$$ed off. The are selling me a blank key for $40. Then cutting it for $4. Then programming it for another $40. I don't mind paying for something that is justified, but this seems to be classic 'We can charge what we want cuz you got no choice'.

Premium Nissan in NY charges $28 to program all your keys @once. Although that is a bit of a drive for you.

It's not the drive that would be a problem. I would need a security guard for my HID's.

Sorry, sorry, not funny........

I guess you'd save $12 on the key and leave with over 3 grands in HID problems. Hmm! though one
