Remote Starts..

I would love to get a remote start/alarm for my 00 SE. Unfortunately, they do not like 5 speeds. I call, tell them what i got, say it's a 5 speed, and they hang up. I know it's a big PITA with the stick, is there any way to get around this? Any recomendations for a unit? I could put one in myself, i just want someone liable if the wiring gets screwed up. Any ideas? Thanks -Mike-

i am getting this one installed next week. In my honest opinion it is much better than the Viper simply because its range is phenomenal and it comes fully loaded, no additonal modules to purchase.

yeah, i did it on my 6-speed. love it
you have to bypass the clutch wire
easy to do, look under, where you press the clutch all the way way, you see a pin. 2 wires connected to it, cut the wires and tap them together...now you never have to press the clutch to turn on the car and it let's Remote start work

DISCLAIMER!!!!!!!!!!!!
LEAVE IT IN GEAR AND DO REMOTE START, AND THE CAR WILL JUMP AND TAKE OFF ON YOU, W/OUT YOU IN THE CAR. JUST GET USED TO KEEPING IT IN NEUTRAL.

there is a wy to bypass it so RS is disabled if you accidently leave it in gear, but it's too complicated and i haven't had a chance to do it, but i will.

oh yeah, and just to show off, i did my window modules also. man do i love that. arm it, all windows go up...

I guess that aint too bad, seeing that for a basic el-cheapo system they want $200 around here (for automatics, of course )

Hey PoLo,
Do you have any info on how you did this? Will it work with the standard keyfob?

It would be great if we could have remote start on our 6spd with the weather in NJ.
I have a few questions!

1. Has anyone successfully installed a remote start using the pin #44 from the ECU?
2. If so does the car start when it is in gear? (Not supposed to.)

again, i have the remote start, but not with pin 44.

i've been too lazy to do it, but yes the pin 44 trick can be done..

an FYI, pin 44 is a 5volt signal, so you'd need a 5volt normally closed relay. in neutral, pin 44 gives 0 volts...when in any gear, it gives 5 volts. so a 5 volt normally closed relay tapped into the pin and the RS would keep the RS off while it's in any gear.

as i was typing that, i started thinking, it would be kinda hard to find a normally closed 5 volt relay. on top of the fact that i believe it's 5 negative volts. then again, i'm not too sure if relays get affected by volt surges, regardless of positive or negative.

if it has be polarity specific, then ummmm i think you'd need 2 relays. 1 relays would be to take in a negative polarity and output a positive polarity. then you'd attach the 5 volt relay to that, and then you could do it.

Remote starts are great when it is freezing outside or its really hot and you need to cool off.
You can leave your car runnig and turn on the alarm and go do something else, if you forget about it the alarm turns off the car after 5 mins, so it's all good. Like them a lot. Had it on my 97 Auto Maxim and it was great.....

I have one on my 5 spd. The reason why alot of people won't do it is because if you park and put your car in gear and forget when you go to do the auto start your car will take off.

Hey PoLo, if it's not too much:
- Which unit to you have? And which window modules did you get for it? I'm very interested and may do it myself with the help of a friend.
- Do you have it setup so that if the brakes are pressed, or the hand brake is put down without the key, the car shuts off?
- Are you using the stock remote, or is it possible?
- How much did the unit cost you?
- I think i read once that you were working on a write-up for it. If so, did you ever complete it?

Thank You for the information in advance.
